Ray LaHood's son barred from leaving Egypt

Egyptian authorities are barring several U.S. citizens — including Transportation Secretary Ray LaHood’s son — from leaving the country after Egyptian government forces raided the offices of Washington-backed groups monitoring recent parliamentary elections there.

Was there with an NGO monitoring Egyptian elections.

Money-quote, and I do mean money, at the bottom of page 1:

Yeah, well, let me make one point perfectly clear - if those MB assholes are running things there should be ZERO aid going to Egypt, period!

And any American held against their will should be declared an act of war and responded to accordingly.

Ray LaHood is the asshole who says the era of policies favoring motorized transportation is over, and that walking and bicycling will be given equal consideration in transportation policy. In other words, no more first-world transportation. Walk and ride bikes and donkeys like the 3rd world.

Ray LaHood is also the statist who led the witch hunt against Toyota over a non-existent acceleration problem. The true purpose of it was to shake them down for daring to have non-union factories in the US.

 He got what he and his president wanted and now he personally has to pay the price for his decision.I wish the son no harm but the father as many sleepless nights as his choices have caused to others.

I think Ray should rush right over to Iran and demand they give him back his baby boy.  Maybe they can help us start cleaning up this country.

There may be several reasons for this action by the Egyptian government, none of them good. They may be trying to force an open break with the US, thus currying favor with the mobs in the streets. Or, it may simply be a propaganda effort to deflect blame from the military for the crackdown in recent months. The military has made it a point to blame "foreign hands" for the violence and demonstrations.

Whatever the reason, a diplomatic storm is about to break and US-Egyptian relations are right in its path.

I still think they want money.

When the students freedom fighters come for those in embassy sanctuary will the media
cover it?  Will the media mention it's eerie resemblance to that incident in Iran during the Carter
administration?

Anybody else think this is a radical departure from SOP?  Or do I have a misunderstanding of how embassies are supposed to work, as in, exist as sovereign territory?

That's why I wrote "supposed", and it's State's JOB to make it quite clear that Americans taking refuge in our embassy ARE immune from arrest.  Well, usually, another State Dept., in another time.

There's also supposed to be a contingency of Marines at the embassy.
In Iran, Carter told them to stand down.
