Street robberies and you - The Basics
« on: February 16, 2012, 08:19:56 PM »
I have to share this article with all of you. It is one of the best I have read on this topic even though it has some swearing. It is long but IMHO well worth the read..........

That was a good post, and it resonates with other stories and discussions I've heard or read on the same subject.

The answer in the street is always "No". Can I ask you something? No. Do you have a cigarette? No. Can you tell me what time it is? No. The answer is always "No". Don't be nice. Stop the encounter as soon as it starts.

If it comes to pass you are forced to shoot someone do not feel bad. When the police come just tell them a guy threatened you with deadly force and you were forced to fire. I know there are bad police out there in some parts of the country who don't support self defense. I can't help you with that.

Do not talk to them until you have your attorney present. Now most young guys don't have an attorney on retainer and you may have no idea who to call. That is OK. You will figure it out but in the mean time don't talk about what happened other than to say you were forced to fire. You don't have to be an asshole just remember wait for your attorney.

Captivating read. I'm glad I live where I do. I carry often, but I'm comfortable doing so selectively, and I don't do so obsessively. If I want to run into town to the grocery store, I don't feel vulnerable if I'm not carrying, especially in the daytime.

I know anything can happen at any time, so if I get caught without, it's my own damn fault. But our town is so crime free, we don't even have a city police force in a town of just under 25,000. The country sheriff from the town 12 miles over suffices, and we rarely have robberies, domestic violence, break-ins, or anything. Plus, a county sheriff's deputy lives a couple doors down across the street, so our neighborhood is extra looked-after.
"A strict observance of the written laws is doubtless one of the high duties of a good citizen, but it is not the highest. The laws of necessity, of self-preservation, of saving our country when in danger, are of higher obligation. To lose our country by a scrupulous adherence to written law, would be to lose the law itself, with life, liberty, property and all those who are enjoying them with us; thus absurdly sacrificing the end to the means."

My area is relatively crime free as well -- until it isn't.  Then everyone cries, "nothing like that ever happens here".  We recently had a "hot" robbery on a residence and the folks have just tightened their opsec.

I don't go anywhere without carrying and if the decal on the door advises me I'm in violation of their regs, tough titties.

Memo to: All Y'all

Concealed carry means just that: Weapon concealed. In most states, it is legal to have a weapon in plain view.

Carry on . . .

Solution: Lay it on the damn table . . .
