Limbaugh Rejects Company That Suspended Ads From Show Over Fluke Remarks

Rush Limbaugh has rejected an advertiser’s apparent attempt to reunite with his show after the company initially dropped its ads from the program following his remarks about contraception advocate Sandra Fluke.

The company, Sleep Train, calls itself “the No. 1 Bedding Specialist on the West Coast, and most recognized mattress retailer in the region.”

In an email to Sleep Train President Dale Carlsen (obtained by The Blaze), a representative of the show says that Limbaugh personally considered the company’s request, but denied it considering its public comments following the controversy.

“Thank you for your requests last week and this week to restart your voiced endorsement in local markets of The Rush Limbaugh Show,” the email begins. “Rush received your requests personally.”

“Unfortunately, your public comments were not well received by our audience, and did not accurately portray either Rush Limbaugh’s character or the intent of his remarks. Thus, we regret to inform you that Rush will be unable to endorse Sleep Train in the future.

“Rush appreciates your long friendship and your past support, and we wish you good luck in the future.”

<snip>

“It’s a business decision, and it’s theirs alone to make,” Limbaugh said Monday morning regarding companies who had pulled ads. “They‘ve decided that they don’t want you anymore or your business.” On Wednesday, he also noted the media was misleading the public about the number of advertisers who had dropped the show.

“We’ll replace them,” he assured his audience.

In a doomsday scenario, hippies will be among the first casualties. So not everything about doomsday will be bad.

That's right and I'm not sure it was on Rush's behalf.  I suspect he did it for his audience, particularly the ones that were pissed he apologized in the first place.

That's right and I'm not sure it was on Rush's behalf.  I suspect he did it for his audience, particularly the ones that were pissed he apologized in the first place.

He's kind of caught in the middle, isn't he? By rejecting their overture to return, he's basically looking like he doesn't understand why they left - which somewhat undermines his apology. People will say that if he was truly sorry, he would accept his sponsors back, because if he really meant the apology, he would understand and accept why they left in the first place. Yet surely he's heard from many listeners who are disgusted with those sponsors who fled, and who have vowed to never do business with them again.

So, he can look somewhat ungracious, or he can piss off his listeners. He can't win. I get why he apologized. At least I think I do. But the apology created a whole 'nother set of problems. More fallout. And in the end, the Leftists won't accept it, they'll beat him about the head and shoulders with it.

I have to say, it is disconcerting for me to see Rush Limbaugh "pushed around" as he has been for the past several days. In my experience listening to him, I would say that this is the lowest point for him since he came clean about his prescription drug addiction.

It is disconcerting, but I believe it's why he's chosen a way to proceed and will keep to that regardless of what "they" say about his apology.  Anybody who pooh-poohs his apology can take a flying leap anyway; nothing he does will satisfy them, they're Leftists or assholes.  But I repeat myself.

I don't know that I hold his apology against him as I understand he believes he did wrong, manned up, and did the right thing by his lights.  It had to have been difficult, KNOWING what would be said - "Oh look!  Rush caved!"  Well, he didn't cave; he obeyed his conscience.  His hands are clean now and the advertisers who either believed they'd help bring him to his knees or get him off the air made poor business decisions, if nothing else.  And Rush is an astute businessman.

I think Rush has the upper hand on this.  He APOLOGIZED.

Any of these advertisers could have called for an apology and said that was sufficient for them and then resumed advertising if it was forthcoming. They didn't expect an apology so some of them really piled on. Most of them had to stick the knife in and turn it.  They didn't expect the reaction from the audience.

Note to self:

Don't mess with Rush and his audience.

What sort of comments did this company make when they pulled their ads? I get the impression that it was their comments that made Rush reject their attempt to come back, rather than the act of suspending ads in the first place.

They probably came out with some PC drivel and it looks like it's backfired on their sales.

No, don't know anything about it.
I assume it's a standard college fund for
deserving students that have difficulty
with the cost of college.

Deserving students "of color".  More affirmative action.  Imagine a United White College Fund and the ensuing screamink.

hmmm, if the kids have earned the credit and someone wants to donate
money for a black kid to get an education it ain't affirmative action and it's OK
by me.  If it is on the up and up.

That's not what is wrong with it. What is wrong with it is the rank hypocrisy surrounding it. It's basically another breathlessly-defended example of "racial and ethnic centrism is ok as long as you're not white".

Exactly.  And, as I wrote, imagine a fund for those "as long as you're White".

Yes, Charles, it may be private money and with that I have no problem.  The problem arises because some funds are more equal funds than others.

Limbaugh Rejects Company That Suspended Ads From Show Over Fluke Remarks

I believe Rush's refusal to allow this advertiser to come back a stroke of genius. Think about it. Companies drop him after he takes some PC heat. He apologizes, no doubt for his advertisers, but instead of making a sound business decision or a simple statement regarding the apology, they STILL bow to PC pressure and drop his show....like a stab in the back. So, Rush states on his show these companies don't want our business and he will replace them. IMO, that statement puts him in a position of power and to solidify said power, the first one who crawls back is rejected. Again IMHO, now Rush is operating with future advertisers from a yet stronger position of authority.

All future advertisers were just given the parameters....and if you bow to PC pressure, you may end up on the editing floor.

Yeah, I have a problem with that but this one is a hold over from a time they
needed a leg up and this is the way it's supposed to be done. Not by the government.

As far as the 'it ain't racist if you're black' and the 'I'm special because (insert any cause or race)'
movement goes - it's not going much farther.  We are either going to change that mime by good
elections and decent common sense understanding of 'we are all equal' or resolution will come
from the unbearable stress upon civility.
