Frank Porreto's "Eternity Road" closing up shop
« on: March 27, 2012, 12:25:02 PM »
Sorry to see it. I went there to invite him and his co-bloggers to use our new crossposting category, and found this.

Owing to certain developments of which I am reluctant to speak explicitly,
Eternity Road will be going "off the air" permanently as of April 1.

No, this isn't a joke of some sort.

If you'd like a copy of the archives, be sure to download one before April 1.

It's been a fun ride, Gentle Readers. Be well, and may God bless and keep you all.

Your host,
Francis W. Porretto
Curmudgeon Emeritus to the World Wide Web
"A strict observance of the written laws is doubtless one of the high duties of a good citizen, but it is not the highest. The laws of necessity, of self-preservation, of saving our country when in danger, are of higher obligation. To lose our country by a scrupulous adherence to written law, would be to lose the law itself, with life, liberty, property and all those who are enjoying them with us; thus absurdly sacrificing the end to the means."

AAARGH.

Wishing Fran well.

UPDATE: For those who'd like a copy of the Archives, just look down the left sidebar to the "Monthly Archives" section. Near the bottom is a link that says "Complete Archives." Be prepared for a large download; there have been over 5000 posts here.

FURTHER UPDATES:

I'll still be blogging at Musings Of An Indie Writer, and perhaps elsewhere as well. It will remain possible to stay in touch, if that's your desire.

Whoa!  Just in "screeds" he's got 511 pages.

Hopefully he will continue to post here on occasion.

I've invited him to do that.

"Owing to certain developments of which I am reluctant to speak explicitly,"

Am I the only one bothered by this phrase?

No... but it could mean anything. Literally anything.

No; I feel some uneasiness as well.  Fran has been walking a certain line for a little while about the inevitability of the coming clash, and he has an employer.

On the other hand, Mr. Porretto has some health issues too.

So, it could be anything, as IDP wrote.

UPDATE: Henceforward I'll be blogging at

Liberty's Torch ...

Yes, I'm Back

Quote
...though God knows for how long.

Eternity Road was wearing me down in many senses. The straw that broke this camel's back was a contretemps with my Webmistress, without whom I was helpless, as she and she alone understood the Expression Engine technology that powered the site. I'm better off here, even if Google is quite as capable of yanking the rug out from under me, if it should decide to do so.

For the present, I'm alone here. If I can get some traffic, perhaps I'll attempt to persuade one or two of my former Co-Conspirators to join me here. Until then...

All my best,
Francis W. Porretto

P.S.: No, the Curmudgeon Emeritus has not been invited!

I believe Connie du Toit was webmistressing for a while for Fran.  Whether she was the cause of Fran's distress or not, I can't say (but wouldn't be surprised); I'm just glad for him that he found a way around it to keep writing.
