They conflate the state and the nation with the personality of its current political head. This is a consistent trait of progressives/leftists everywhere, as shown in the above examples. I instinctively recoil at the notion of individual persons being merged with institutions in the public consciousness, but I guess that's what makes one a conservative rather than a starry-eyed moonbat. Their defense, that they didn't know it violated the flag code, only makes it worse because it shows that they think their only possible transgression was that they breached the technicalities of some esoteric flag code. No you fools! Flag code or not, it should have set off all sorts of alarm bells from the very first suggestion!
