I'm guessing the gun shops are currently in the process of running out of AR-15s and similar weapons, and particularly accessories and ammo.

I've been thinking seriously about bolstering everything, as well as buying some kind of tactical shotgun. The Remington 870 is a fine weapon, but I want something for indoor home defense.

Two things are certain; Don's estimation is low and he is the winner.  If he could only help other businesses as well.

I too can be added to the list. Bought an AR-15 this morning. Last one in the store. Guy ahead in line bought 4.

What could be better than an 870? I mean it's a toss-up between it and the Mossberg 500 but those two are the 2 most serviceable 12-gauge shotguns that I know of. To the point that I would reach for my 870 before I did my Saiga or my 1100.

Well, my 870 is really set up perfectly for bird hunting. Rather than modify it, I'd rather just get something new for home defense. The first thing I would consider would be an 870 tactical.
"A strict observance of the written laws is doubtless one of the high duties of a good citizen, but it is not the highest. The laws of necessity, of self-preservation, of saving our country when in danger, are of higher obligation. To lose our country by a scrupulous adherence to written law, would be to lose the law itself, with life, liberty, property and all those who are enjoying them with us; thus absurdly sacrificing the end to the means."

Were I in the shotgun market, I think I'd be looking for a Mossberg 590 Marine.  Right now I've got a Winchester 1300 Defender and it is everything I want in a defensive shotgun. It has the smoothest action of any I've used. I think they quit making them unfortunately.

Well it doesn't take anything to open the choke and put a magazine extender on it for home use - good to go!   ;)

December looks to be really rockin'!

According to Susan Medina with the CBI, the National Instant Criminal Background Check System (NICS) is experiencing similar volume to CBI’s InstaCheck numbers.

At the Risk of Being Redundant ...Predator Don wins High praise for his guess of 2821948 being over by , being over  by just  38183! .
Yes, the number was 2783765 , a total of 19,592,303   for the year 2012. I somehow suspect multiple guns where purchased on a lot of these.

So, is there any interest in continuing this game in January, or should we just crown Predator Don the undisputed winner and supreme NICS Stats prognosticator extraordinaire?

While I don't wager (guess) I find tracking the steadily rising stats interesting.  For what that's worth.

Lets keep it going...It is the only sanity left in my life. Plus, i'll go ahead and put my number out there so someone can go one under and one over my estimate.

The question is....will we cross the 3 million plateau. Since my wife has requested a triggerless 38 caliber for our ANNIVERSARY ( honey, are you all right?) I say yes.

Depending on how much of the recent sales tsunami is reflected in the December numbers, the January numbers could be very high indeed. I think it will crack 3 mil.

I say 3,230,000.

Of the 38 revolvers (internal hammer, still need the trigger!) I have I like my S&W 638 w/crimson trace, but my sister liked my Ruger LCR so much she went and bought one and she can out shoot me with that thing!

I guess I'll undercut Don and go for an even 3 million for January.

Yep, it's stainless. Or maybe nickel plated. Either way, highly corrosion resistant.
