This notice is to advise you about a trend we have identified amongst several insurance companies and how they apply policy benefits to claims for preventive care.
Insurance companies are transitioning their policies to comply with the Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act (OBAMACARE). One major impact of this transition is a change in the guidelines that the companies use for determining whether a service is payable under the benefits of your plan. Most plans are now following the recommendations of the United States Preventive Service Task Force (DEATH PANEL) and only consider preventive benefits assigned a grade of A or B by the DEATH PANEL. All other services received on the same date of service as your physical appointment that are not assigned a grade of A or B by the DEATH PANEL would be processed under the medical diagnostic benefits of your insurance plan regardless of the coding assigned by the physician. As such your insurance company may no longer cover as part of your preventive benefits the services listed below:
- * Routine lab work we believe is important to check your health status; eg., complete blood count, glucose, lipid panel, Vitamin D, liver tests, tests for anemia, urine screening, kidney function tests etc.
- * Tests such as EKGs, x-rays, and lab work related to previously identified medical or chronic health conditions such as hypertension, hypercholesterolemia, diabetes, etc.
This change in the way insurance companies are interpreting preventive health benefit coverage may impact you financially.
