Beckel is supposed to be a Christian. I say "supposed to be" because no one other than God knows what is truly in another man's heart.
I remember hearing a story about Cal Thomas (with whom Beckel co-wrote a book called "Common Ground") supposedly helping Beckel with his alcoholism and drug addiction and even leading him to become a Christian (didn't read the book so I can't say for sure). That would be very much like Cal Thomas. When I was a young person living in Houston, Cal Thomas was a member of my church and I personally knew his son and daughter. Cal Thomas was (is) a very devout Christian who has absolutely no hesitation at all towards evangelism. When he was in Houston (in the mid to late 1970's when I was there) he worked for the local NBC affiliate. He left after Reagan was elected to work for (I think) Falwell's Moral Majority in DC. I lost track of him and his family, of course, after that but I seem to remember that he wasn't in DC very long before he landed a gig with a major network (NBC I think but I'm not sure) and then began writing a syndicated column. Then FNC hired him and that is where he and Beckel met. They are supposed to be close friends.
At any rate, I hope that Beckel isn't falling off of the wagon and I do mean that. When one commits their life to Christ there is a price to be paid for that. What I mean is that God does not allow you to become a Christian and then just ignore you. If you begin to fall back into the sinful behavior of your formerly un-saved self, God will correct you. Sometimes that correction can be quite painful and in some cases publicly humiliating. (I speak from personal experience.) Who knows? It's between him and God. So, I hope that Beckel is able to turn himself around again. Personally, I would like to see him become a conservative, too. That would be the whole enchilada, so to speak.
Nevertheless, the above sequence was hysterically funny. But I do feel a bit guilty for having a laugh at Beckel's expense. Just a bit guilty.
And yeah, Alan Colmes is a complete tool.
Trivia: Cal Thomas is a very tall guy. I'm 6'2" and I look up to Thomas. One of the tallest people I have ever met.
