Babies are racist, so obviously psychologists must cure them

IronDioPriest:
Our 7 year old daughter adopted from China still fixates on Asian people when she encounters them, although that has diminished greatly over time. When we first received her, she would crane her neck and attempt to make and keep eye contact with Asian people until they were visually out of her presence. Nowadays, she just notices them, and looks at them a little longer.

Is it any wonder? For the first 11 months of her life, it is almost certain that she never saw a Caucasian face. Babies are naturally drawn to people who look like the people who care for them. Duh.

9-Month-Olds Show Racial Bias When Looking at Faces

--- Quote ---"These results suggest that biases in face recognition and perception begin in preverbal infants, well before concepts about race are formed. It is important for us to understand the nature of these biases in order to reduce or eliminate [the biases]," said study researcher Lisa Scott, a psychologist at the University of Massachusetts, Amherst, in a statement. [3-Year-Olds Fancy Own Ethnic Group]

In the study, 48 Caucasian infants were given the task of differentiating between faces of their own race and faces that belonged to another, unfamiliar, race. In another experiment, sensors placed on the babies' heads detected brain activity when the babies saw images of faces of Caucasian or African-American races expressing emotions that either matched or did not match sounds they heard, such as laughing and crying.

While 5-month-olds were equally able to distinguish faces from different races, 9-month-olds fared better with their own race. Likewise, brain-activity measurements showed the 9-month-olds processed emotional expressions among Caucasian faces differently than those of African-American faces, while the 5-month-olds did not.

Specifically, a shift was seen between 5 months and 9 months of age, whereby processing of facial emotions moved from the front of the brain to regions in the back of the brain in the older age group, the researchers found. This brain shift will help scientists understand just how the brain develops with regard to their experiences with different races during the first year of life, Scott and colleagues report in a study published in the May issue of the journal Developmental Science.

So this complete moron wants to take something that is completely natural and makes absolute common sense, and unravel it in order to comport with her liberal sensibilities regarding race and racism. Good God.

LadyVirginia:
Well, if you can abort babies why not scramble their brains to "fix them"  if they make it out of the birth canal?

Libertas:
Yup, makes sense I guess to the leftist morons who view everyone as broken and tainted by their creator until the state and its minions can reprogram them into acceptable beings capable of serving the state.

Alphabet Soup:
IDP - you know that leftists consider it child abuse for Republicans to "own" minority children, right? They don't feeeeeeeeeeeeel that we have the prerequisite sensitivity to properly usher them through this world.

Of course babies are discriminating, all normals are by nature. Of course they aren't racist - that's a learned response and different from discrimination. And of course leftists are incapable of differentiating between the two. People - including babies can differentiate between ugly and beauty as well. Does that mean that they are uglist as well?!

(You do know that my comments are rhetoric in nature and I'm just responding to the article, right?!)

Here is my niece with my daughter:

Her mother is gone and she never knew her druggie father so she's grown up surrounded by old white people (her grandmother and grandfather are raising her). No one ever looked sideways at her because of her melanin, and she has never had any doubts that everyone around her loves her unconditionally. I seriously doubt that she ever looked around herself and wondered, "where's all my people?!"

Isn't it interesting that every "frank" examination by leftists of race (or pretty much anything) inevitably focuses on divisiveness instead of inclusiveness?

I've already had to have the "we don't do the 'Chinese-American' thing" conversation with teachers. The teachers have been very responsive and understanding of our position - after an initial look of confusion and consternation. These young ladies hired to teach our children have been so inculcated with the liberal orthodoxy on race, that our position - fully explained by reasonable parents - seemed almost like an epiphany for them.

As I've said before, we feel fortunate to live in a school district that is not off the deep end. From both her kindergarten and first grade teachers, we basically got a "thank you for telling me, I want to make sure to do things according to your wishes" response. But I'm aware that somewhere else, such an admonition to treat my daughter's race as a non-factor in her education might have gotten me a visit from CPS.
