You have to see this to believe it.  Not only did they print the names without raising any eyebrows, but then the reporter actually says them aloud.  Remember now, these are your intellectual betters.  They're just a liiiitle to sophisticated and cosmopolitan for your flyover-state rednecks.

Part i is pretty good, too.

That was an EXCELLENT read and well worth the price of admission. Thanks for sharing.

I agree.
I want to buy a tractor now.

Quote
Every time I start my tractor a microscopic wave of common sense reverberates through the cosmos.  OSHA hyperventilates.  Ralph Nader weeps.  Al Gore shudders.  Obama’s teleprompter falls over.  Nancy Pelosi drops kicks her armed bodyguard in the shin.  Michael Bloomberg spills his big gulp.  Domestic aerial drones lose their beaings.  Twitter is delayed a half second.  The NSA accidentally deletes someones’ Facebook profile. I smile!

I got a sewing machine in the late 80's, not because I knew how to sew--what I knew would've filled a thimble--but I had a sense that it would be a needed part of my life as a wife and mother--and it was and is.  Thankfully, it's mostly metal (with some electronic features).  The parts that have broken are plastic (certain levers and the box housing the on/ off swtich)and at this point not replaceable.  And sometimes it's temperamental.  My brother gave my daughter a sewing machine a couple of years ago.  It's mostly plastic (lightweight--mine is heavy) and I was a bit envious of all it's features.  But I can't sew on it.  I've used it occasionally but half the time I'm working on something I have to go back to mine to complete a project. So just when I think I should consider a new machine I realize I would probably be buying a disposal machine.

We're hunting now for a tractor, so A.C.'s piece resonated.

So does the sewing machine issue.  Mine is a small portable, and heavy, but with no chips.  Gunsmith tried to get me a newer, bigger one for Christmas from Sears, also with no chips.  They took the money but refunded it when they couldn't deliver.  Could be the consignment/Salvation Army shops might have one worth keeping an eye out for.  At this point, I'd settle for a treadle.

A.C.'s Pieces always resonate.   If you search back Far enough A.C. details his a mulitpart series the Saga of fixing his tractor. Back then he used to insert really, really funny pictures and captions into his posts.

Previous owner left me a old Sears Craftsman Lawn Tractor with the house. I  have had all of the fun working on an old tractor without the positive cosmic karma.  He had the thing hotwired too ( the electrical system is all fouled up)  but so far I have had to tear it down the carb (multiple times) , get water out of the engine block, rebuild the starter motor, try to adjust the brakes so they work  ( not sure it can be done-- Sears doesn't sell the pads anymore..) and of course replace the belt and the blades... and all of this time I am hearing A.C.s tractor saga in my head.

I thought long and hard about an antique tractor.  Previous owner tried to sell me one ( for too much)  but the newer ones just have the features you need and want that the oldeer ones don't..especially if the primary user is going to be a woman.

The past few years have really driven up the prices on old tractors.
