And this...

http://newyork.cbslocal.com/2014/10/22/emergency-agencies-practice-response-to-nuclear-explosion-in-times-square/

OK, serious topic, but really...their procedures are, well, kinda stupid!  I think subway and cell service in such a scenario is the least of your worries!   :o

But the funny part is in the comments -

Practice drills and contingency plans are good. But idiotic knee-jerk responses are mock-worthy.

My new job has taken me off the road and plunked down in the middle of cubicle land in a dreary and depressing office building. They recently announced that they were going to have an earthquake drill. I've often wondered what's the point of pre-announcing an emergency drill when the whole point of the drill is to measure response to a spontaneous event (but there you go).

So they say "The drill will commence at 09:00 and we want you to all duck and cover under your desks.

Now a thing you need to know if you've been fortunate enough to have avoided Cubicleland is that there are no desks in Cubicleland. Instead they have these modular connecting wall units and shelves that bolt to the walls. So you don't have a desk - you have a shelf. A shelf with a ton of crap sitting on it.

If the ground starts shaking I'll be damned if I'm going get squashed by collapsing office furniture.

My response to the drill? At 08:55 I grabbed up my gear and left.

Yeah, we have that stupidity too, but for fire drills...like in a real fire everybody will go down the stairs in an order and proficient manner...   :o

And in case of a tornado, well, we are supposed to pile onto one hallway on one side of the building because somebody thinks that's just the spot to be safe in...

I'll go where the herd isn't and use my best judgement, thanks.

# 2 Sold out? I guess I could buy #3 and alter it. I hate doing that but the wife is set on the Cleo.

I don't like Jim Carrey. I know that you don't like him either. But I also don't like Matthew McConaughey since he came out of the closet as a 2nd Amendment hating idiot. So...this is pretty funny. A series of three SNL ads spliced together that mock the  Matthew McConaughey Lincoln MKS promos. Enjoy.

In a doomsday scenario, hippies will be among the first casualties. So not everything about doomsday will be bad.

OK, I heard this in the drive in today, it is funny...Carey might be a left-wing douchenozzle but he doesn't go out of his way to advertise the fact he is a douchenozzle and if he does nobody I know gives a crap (part of which may be because a) he doesn't seem to take himself too seriously b) he has a rep of being an over-acting clown and c) probably because  a & b are so widely known, people don't see him as anything other than a comic)...and this is funny as heck.

I'm not sure Lincoln appreciates it, but, it's parody of McConaughey...that quip of stepping back was good, as is the Dazed & Confused interpretation of the Zen crap of the original commercial.

I'll have to keep an eye out for those kits.

Could keep the nooses off and the doors shut tight while we wait, maybe puts some swings on it and just call it a jungle gym for the kiddies...

Spooning leads to forking. So please.... use condiments.
"A strict observance of the written laws is doubtless one of the high duties of a good citizen, but it is not the highest. The laws of necessity, of self-preservation, of saving our country when in danger, are of higher obligation. To lose our country by a scrupulous adherence to written law, would be to lose the law itself, with life, liberty, property and all those who are enjoying them with us; thus absurdly sacrificing the end to the means."
