That is such a gross affront to people who were the first to be subjugated by the Nazis in the opening weeks of WWII. It's more than just a foreign policy faux pas, it betrays an ignorance that a supposed Ivy League intellectual should not have. When you add this to some other examples, such as "speaking Austrian", "Navy corpse-man", and "57 states" it reveals a second rate intellect that benefits from an oratory flair and an army of protective handlers.
