Europeans mad at Canada.
« on: June 08, 2012, 06:12:18 PM »
Announced today that the German ambassador and the EU are angry at Canadian refusal to provide bank bailout funds for their institutions.   In an interview with the Globe & Mail the Ambassador indicated that this would have a devastating effect on European banking institutions.   (Sorry I can link with this pad)... ::puke::

Oh dear.

The Europeans have made a mess of things and are upset when others tell them to wallow in their own mire?

How sad.
My doctor told me to start killing people.  Not in those exact words, she said I had to reduce the stress in my life.

Same thing.

http://www.theglobeandmail.com/commentary/germany-must-lead-to-solve-euro-zone-crisis/article4240951/

Germans overwhelmingly feel they have contributed enough already. Their narrative-to-self runs that after the euro was created, two things happened.

Germany changed its labour laws and other policies to render its economy more competitive. Simultaneously, other less rigorous countries used low interest rates and the strong euro to go on a borrowing and spending spree, thereby making themselves less competitive. Labour costs from 2000 to 2011 rose about 20 per cent in Germany, 40 per cent in Italy, 50 per cent in Greece and 55 per cent in Spain.

If, continues the narrative, we Germans allow other countries to hitch themselves further to our enviable credit rating and low borrowing rates (1 per cent), as in the form of euro bonds, they wouldn't take hard measures to become more competitive but might just continue with many of their bad ways.

Elements of German morality and perceptions of self-virtue therefore mix with hardheaded self-interest. The German public, by all accounts (including conversations with various German parliamentarians who recently came through Ottawa), opposes any further largesse.

Canada has bled itself white in the last century to help these basket cases and in response we get sneering about our lifestyles, our hunting ( seals), our oil, our grain ( genetically modified to deal with the weather) and now our economic success.  The EU was created for the express purpose of challenging the economic prowess of Canada and the US, and after it falls on its face (as all socialist schemes do) they come demanding, not asking us for more money,

From the haughty eyes of Europe, Canada is tainted by association with the USA.  North Americans have spent enough blood on that basket case of a continent.

At the moment, Stephen Harper is the sanest leader in the anglosphere. That alone earns you plenty of derision from the salons of Paris.

Concur, but it won't stop the EU from trying to suck the rest of the productive world down with it.

We already have the leader of the opposition (socialist NDP) squealing that we gotta help the Euro-trash...   interestingly he's got dual citizenship with him also having French citizenship..   wonder why he wants to help... sarc..
