On Wednesday video was released showing a 68 year-old female bus monitor being abused by middle school children while riding the bus to school.

Quote
One of the bullies was SWAT-ted yesterday in a hostage hoax.
TMZ reported:

Cops believed one of the students who taunted bus monitor Karen Klein was at the center of a serious hostage situation yesterday … but it turned out to be a hoax. Steve Chatterton — Captain of the Greece Police Dept. in Greece, NY — tells TMZ … someone called the cops yesterday claiming to be holding a family hostage at gunpoint. The caller gave police an address … which turned out to be a home where one of the kids on Karen’s bus lived … so cops reacted with full force. We’re told cops raced to the location … set up a perimeter … and tried to make contact with the family, which proved difficult because the fam had turned off their phones after receiving TONS of harassing phone calls. But cops eventually spoke with family members and realized there was no danger … and determined the whole thing was a hoax. Still, Captain Chatterton tells us the threats are coming in fast and furiously … targeting the bullies and their siblings, parents, girlfriends and boyfriends. Chatterton says students who weren’t even on the bus are getting threats. Chatterton says cops are investigating … everything … but so far, no arrests have been made.

.... Karen Klein told reporters today that she doesn’t accept the kid’s apologies.

Jim Hoft believes this is a horrible act, because these are children.

I have to admit, I chuckled a bit.

On the other hand, looks like the hoax-SWATting is getting out of hand and that may not be a bad thing in the end; policies may be tightened up.

I think this trend of people using false reports to police to carry out personal vendettas against personal enemies is horrible. If something isn't done, right now, to make the penalty for doing this so high that no one dare try it, it will only escalate.

I think the legal standard for knowingly and maliciously reporting a false violent crime in progress should be defined, and when such a crime is committed, the penalty should equal the charge that is falsely reported. You call the police and falsely report a murder, you face life in prison - and down from there. This needs to stop NOW.
"A strict observance of the written laws is doubtless one of the high duties of a good citizen, but it is not the highest. The laws of necessity, of self-preservation, of saving our country when in danger, are of higher obligation. To lose our country by a scrupulous adherence to written law, would be to lose the law itself, with life, liberty, property and all those who are enjoying them with us; thus absurdly sacrificing the end to the means."

Oh, it will stop .... maybe just not NOW.  Somebody with some clout will get SWATted and that will get the ball rolling.  What I'd like to see is tighter policies calling for less SWATting, and requiring they be the absolute last line of defense, all over the country.

This is what happens when the police state gets the upper hand.

  • Hippies smell bad. Go away, hippie.
I agree that the false reporting of violent crimes in progress should be investigated and prosecuted vigorously.

That said, I have zero sympathy for the punks on the bus that tormented the old lady.
In a doomsday scenario, hippies will be among the first casualties. So not everything about doomsday will be bad.

I didn't watch the video. I read about so didn't feel the need to watch it. What's frustrating is that "the chillllldren" have been made into such little cult objects that no one dare put them in their places as is the way of things in the natural order. That's why a grown woman probably felt like she couldn't respond in any sort of disciplinary way. How often do we all bite our tongues around obnoxious little sh*ts in public places? The second you raise your voice it's you who are the monster.

As for this whole SWATing phenomenon, yes, it needs to stop. For one, the police should never have militarized to the point that this phenomenon exist, but aside from that it needs to end. I think you could make the case that it is assault with a deadly weapon, because you are through your criminal action subjecting other people to the very real possibility of serious injury or death. These raids go wrong all the time, and someone ends up dead.

I chalk it up to just one more characteristic that shows we are down the road to tyranny. It's a common thing in such societies, the Gestapo and the KGB and the Stasi offered perfect avenues for the settling of personal vendettas. What better way to get someone you don't like than to report them as being one of the undesirables of the day?  The only fix for that is to deliberately disallow the formation of the state apparatus in the first place.

If that was one of my kids that took part in that God couldn't save them from me. What a monumental affront that would be for me and my family. It would be considered child abuse for bringing that kind of embarrassment to me.

It would mean a stiff beating and a public apology for behaving like an idiot.

Hi allz
Nice to see everyone. I hope all of my friends here are well.
Now, to the topic at hand;
I say the punishment for everyone who was involved should be that the kids should have to do this lady's landscaping, cut grass, trim bushes, etc. shovel snow, take out garbage, etc., etc., for a full year. They should have to look her in the eyes every week and talk to her, get to know her. Maybe if they saw her as a grandmother, they wouldn't think it's (funny) to do something like that again.
All I can say is that no child of mine would even think of doing anything like this, I raised them to respect their elders. Like when I was a kid, we never called an adult by their first name, it was always Mr. or Mrs., or aunt and uncle. My father had a short fuse when it came to disrespecting people.

Ayup.
My doctor told me to start killing people.  Not in those exact words, she said I had to reduce the stress in my life.

Same thing.

I agree OLJ. Severe enough to send a message. IF the parents are able to drive the point home, hopefully this'll be a lesson learned. From the one kids apology, I think he, at least, is headed in the right direction.
