Ahem...

Portugal?  How about uncoupling from the socialists morons that got you into this position?  That might be a good start!

Looks like the statists have done their work in educational systems all over the world.  Too bad Margaret Thatcher's point, that socialism only works until you run out of other people's money, didn't make that kind of impact.

They're learning the hard way.  Well, a few might anyway, the rest are just going to get it hard!

This is what happens when citizens understand the fiscal insolvency of their government, and still demand uninterrupted entitlements.

Alas.
"A strict observance of the written laws is doubtless one of the high duties of a good citizen, but it is not the highest. The laws of necessity, of self-preservation, of saving our country when in danger, are of higher obligation. To lose our country by a scrupulous adherence to written law, would be to lose the law itself, with life, liberty, property and all those who are enjoying them with us; thus absurdly sacrificing the end to the means."

Alas.

I suspect they don't understand the government's insolvency, but instead believe there's a pile of money somewhere - a stash - and that's being held out from them.

Alas.

This is what happens when you raise a couple of generations of professional students with University degrees that live off the peasant parents that worked their asses off so they don't have to be peasants. Now you have parents that want what they worked for and children that refuse to get their hands dirty.

So they dress up and hang out at the Piazza and talk politics and philosophy all day and are all metro sexual bums. All with degrees in nothing marketable in their home countries because THERE ARE NO JOBS.

 Same damn thing in Italy.

Exactly. You could hear echos of that mentality in Wisconsin. They believe the fiscal crisis is just a fiction concocted to serve as an excuse for spending cuts, or even if real it's still not a crisis -- not when "all we need to do" is just nationalize all the private wealth out there. The banality of the messengers obscures the true danger of just how easily this sort of thinking could become the basis for civil war.

Yes, from the likes of Michael Moore in particular.  Listening to Beck, after I made my post, he stated that he's been hearing the same faulty premise - lie - come more frequently from the usual suspects.

"Nationalize all the private wealth" indeed.  And then what?  After they've killed the golden goose and there are no more eggs, what they've not considered is what happens to the non-producers.

I'm sickened, disgusted, thrown into despair over the ignorance and evil sin afoot here.

I do believe this sort of thinking is going to lead to widespread violence. The rabble have been whipped up into a sense of indignation, that they are being victimized by others "hoarding" from them and that these new calls for austerity are just insult to injury. Plus they have a president and federal bureaucracy actively taking their side. Talk about a powder keg.

Eventually someone or a group of someones from our end of the spectrum is going to meet them in kind when they push with more of this street thuggery. I think that's what will usher in a more widespread and ongoing sort of civil unrest. It's exactly what the Left wants and has been agitating for. There's no other explanation behind the consistent upping of the ante by them. They are further emboldened because officialdom keeps giving them a wink and a nod, standing by to handle its "top down" part of the agreement. I mean, look at the signals they're getting from the damned police themselves!

Dangerous, dangerous times. I get why Beck asserts some of the things he does, but we're not going to Ghandi/MLK our way out of this, if for no other reason than the fact that Leftists are incapable of moral shame. Remember, they've rejected the existence of any moral entity above and beyond humanity. They are the final arbiters of right and wrong, and this dichotomy boils down to that which advances their agenda being right, that which impedes it being wrong. Part of the reason that MLK's movement worked is because even in the Jim Crow South people felt pangs of guilt about turning fire hoses and dogs loose on unarmed people. Stalinists, on the other hand, are only troubled by figuring out how many bodies a single bullet will pass through as they're lined up in front of a ditch.
