I thought someone mentioned this somewhere, but here's a link to the story.

This is just so messed up...1930 law...displacing private jobs...and taxpayers pay more for prisoner made uni's...strike three!

Prisoners should be doing jobs no one else wants to.  Cleaning up along the highways for example.  Do these prisoners get a salary for making uniforms?  If so why and if not why are the uniforms more expensive that those made by free law abiding men and women who are getting paid??

If they can sew they can sew their own uniforms.
They should also grow their own food and the
excess sold to pay for maintenance and upkeep
of the prisons.  Prisons could be self-supporting
which would further relieve honest citizens from
their burdensomeness.

Amen, brother!  We ought to be looking to offset operational costs by employing these people to do stuff, they can still learn useful skills, but they should not be benefiting a corporate entity in competition with companies employing law-abidding citizens!  The folks being displaced might as well go rob banks and when they get caught they can go to prison and resume their previous careers!
