I hear he died.
"A strict observance of the written laws is doubtless one of the high duties of a good citizen, but it is not the highest. The laws of necessity, of self-preservation, of saving our country when in danger, are of higher obligation. To lose our country by a scrupulous adherence to written law, would be to lose the law itself, with life, liberty, property and all those who are enjoying them with us; thus absurdly sacrificing the end to the means."

Buh-bye.

I read day before yesterday that he was at the palliative care stage. Condolences to the family.

What happened, George?

McGovern volunteered for the U.S. Army Air Forces upon the country's entry into World War II and as a B-24 Liberator pilot flew 35 missions over German-occupied Europe. Among the medals awarded him was a Distinguished Flying Cross for making a hazardous emergency landing of his damaged plane and saving his crew.

RIP

He was always more heart than brains. The leftists miss those sort of folks now. I disagreed with him on EVERYTHING that mattered, but he was still a good fellow....I mean for a leftist.  There are so few like him remaining on their side, it is not a good thing that he is dead now.
“My mission today is to go forth and tell people about why I follow Christ and also what the Bible teaches, and part of that teaching is that women and men are meant to be together.

“However, I would never treat anyone with disrespect just because they are different from me. We are all created by the Almighty and like Him, I love all of humanity. We would all be better off if we loved God and loved each other.”

I applaud his service in the war, but politically he was on the wrong side of history to say the least.
We are now where The Founders were when they faced despotism.
