All My Children being canceled after 41 years on air
« on: March 25, 2011, 12:46:11 AM »
Back in the early days of my music career (when there were only three channels and cable wasn't universally available) I used to start my days around noon, and I went though a phase of watching AMC. Erica, Phoebe, Tad, Palmer, Nina... Haven't watched in probably 20 years or so. 41 years is a pretty good run.

Report: All My Children being canceled after 41 years

AFTER 41 years on the air, All My Children, is reportedly set to be canceled.

The soap opera — which is set in the apochryphal Philadelphia suburb of Pine Valley (usually interpreted as Bryn Mawr) — will be axed later this week, according to reports.

It’s believed the program will be replaced with a talk show, which is much cheaper to producer [sic].

All My Children has been running continuously since 1970; recently, it earned longtime daytime actress Susan Lucci a Daytime Emmy.

Ratings for daytime soaps have slipped across the board, with CBS canceling Guiding Light and As The World Turns and NBC canceling Passions.

Recently, ABC moved production of All My Children from New York to Los Angeles in order to save on production costs. The show’s ratings have dropped about one-and-a-half points since 2000.
"A strict observance of the written laws is doubtless one of the high duties of a good citizen, but it is not the highest. The laws of necessity, of self-preservation, of saving our country when in danger, are of higher obligation. To lose our country by a scrupulous adherence to written law, would be to lose the law itself, with life, liberty, property and all those who are enjoying them with us; thus absurdly sacrificing the end to the means."

OMG!!!

*snicker*

(sorry, couldn't help myself)
In a doomsday scenario, hippies will be among the first casualties. So not everything about doomsday will be bad.

A very early 20's and very hawt Meg Ryan on As the World Turns was where it was at, for me.  ::pimp::

No one watches daytime TV anymore.

I was never much into soaps but I do have memories of coming home from school and my mom would be folding laundry watching her favorites.

I remember that.  I'd be coming home after a morning of college classes, grab a beer and sit down and watch that...I remember some spy angle Meg's character got caught up in, that's about it...

I used to deny I watched that, seemed so unmanly...still does...

I'm so ashamed!

I was hooked on soaps many years ago. I watched As the World Turns, too!

"What will Susan Lucci do now?" is the question of the day. My friend back in Illinois has watched All My Children pretty much since it came on. She will be sad about this.

At least she finally received her award.
