Chinese Austerity
« on: January 31, 2013, 09:16:15 AM »
A claim to have banned extravagence amoung the bureaucracy in China.  '10 page report'.  I don't know what to make of it, but today's headlines over there include the horrendous smog.

The interesting thing will be to see who is exempt, and how they will work around it. The list of changes seems largely cosmetic - particularly "Improving news reporting."
"A strict observance of the written laws is doubtless one of the high duties of a good citizen, but it is not the highest. The laws of necessity, of self-preservation, of saving our country when in danger, are of higher obligation. To lose our country by a scrupulous adherence to written law, would be to lose the law itself, with life, liberty, property and all those who are enjoying them with us; thus absurdly sacrificing the end to the means."

Supposedly people over there are buying canned air for breathing. No joke. Just like that scene in Spaceballs.
