The NFL Now Openly & Squarely in the Crosshairs of the Left
« on: February 03, 2013, 12:26:58 PM »
Think they could never do it? Look at how quickly lawsuits, propaganda, and power-grabs turned the country against tobacco production and use, for a look at how this society is ripe for attack on any freedom or Americana we are naive enough to take for granted. People are lemmings when it comes to outrage for the "public good".

Likening the league's response to "tobacco company posture of stony denial" gives a clue to the way this attack on the uniquely American sport of football is going to play out over time - as do characterizations like "brutal"; "macho"; "hyper-masculine"; "near-pornographic"; "poisoned"; "vicious dark-side"; "grotesque"; "bloated behemoth sport"...

The premise of the article can be summed up in this excerpt: "...the sport as we know it either has to die or be so drastically reinvented it will barely be recognizable..."

And yes, the author invoked President Obama as someone who sees this from the authors point of view, citing his "reluctance" to allow his hypothetical Trayvon to play football.

Football’s death spiral
Corroded by scandal and undermined by shocking new science, America's killer sport may be nearing collapse
"A strict observance of the written laws is doubtless one of the high duties of a good citizen, but it is not the highest. The laws of necessity, of self-preservation, of saving our country when in danger, are of higher obligation. To lose our country by a scrupulous adherence to written law, would be to lose the law itself, with life, liberty, property and all those who are enjoying them with us; thus absurdly sacrificing the end to the means."

The author is a full-blown leftist asshat who has probably witnessed more queers dancing on stage than athletes performing on the field, he was probably routinely pummeled with bouncy balls in the school gym when dodgeball was engaged, and I wouldn't be surprised to find out if he has kids that they excel at knitting.

This all started with the non-results oriented crowd that scorned real competitiveness, encouraged participation over outcome, gave everybody feel-good treats and endeavors to make boys less male and girls more manly.

In short it is assholes like this that are responsible for the emasculation of boys and the rise in kids who fail to cope with this assault upon their male identity that end up killing their parents and walking into schools to kill more people.

It is people like this who are destroying America.

I agree Libertas. Thus it follows that allowing the Leftists to destroy the sport of football would be a major coup for their destruction of the culture in general. Thus, it follows that the destruction of the NFL is most surely on their agenda. This is how the Left works. They begin the conversation, push it out there, and make it "OK" for people to question and then turn against the very things that make us who we are as a nation.

This is hilarious on so many counts!

But how ironic that is goes out after a gazzillion mega watt half time show!   ::hysterical::

As usual the quips at ZH about this are quite entertaining -

Yep, smart grid technology was the problem. Now take that and shove it where the sun don't shine GE.

Yeah, GE needs a new and more honest slogan like "over-charging customers for inferior products" or at least a disclaimer like for the drugs that give you 14 new side-effects to replace the one thing you are trying to get rid of...

So who am I to cheer for?  An organization that is only alive today due to rent seeking, that's jumped onto every leftist boat that's come their way.  Essentially an NFL that has become the Sweet Stuff zone.

Or the very leftist boat?

"Football these days looks a lot less like symbolic or theatrical violence and more like the real thing. This brutal collision sport, which is essentially unique to North America, is deadly to those who play it and toxic in other ways to those who worship it."

What?  Toxic?  Deadly?  Deadly how, exactly?  More brutal than rugby?  Or hockey?

Maybe it promotes an atmosphere of competition and encourages values like individuality, camaraderie, and work ethic.  I saw this coming, tbh, when they starting making dodgeball games in school use foam balls, and when they whole 'scandal' over bonus for injuries came to light, but. . .

I wonder if they'd have us all playing flag football, or worse.

EDIT:  haha it embeded without my asking it too. . .

Jim Hoft's headline:

"A Government Owned Stadium, Powered By Heavily Regulated Electricity, With 26,000 LED Lights, Pushed By Green Energy Zealots… What Could Go Wrong?"

Gotta love it.

The Non-American is already talking as if "fundamental transformation" of America's favorite sport is an inevitability, and that its transformation will comport to his will...

Quote
“I want to make sure we’re doing everything we can to keep the sport safer,” said Mr. Obama in a pre-Super Bowl interview with CBS anchor Scott Pelley. “That means the game’s probably going to evolve a little bit.”

The president, who said last month that he would think twice about allowing a son to play football, emphasized that the changes should be made at the youth and college level as opposed to the National Football League, given that NFL players are “grown men, they’re well-compensated, they know the risks that are involved.”

“For those of us [read; those of YOU] who like to see a big hit, and enjoy the rock ‘em, sock ‘em elements of the game, we’re probably going to be occasionally frustrated,” Mr. Obama said.
