Mayors Reportedly Preparing Boycott of Gun Manufacturers

Minnesota Public Radio reports that Mayor R.T. Rybak of Minneapolis has said that he and 60 other mayors are considering boycotts of gun makers who don’t agree to their sweeping list of gun control demands. Taking a page from the Rahm Emanuel playbook, the mayors intend to use their police department purchasing power as leverage.

This is a re-hash of the Clinton Administration threat, spearheaded by then-HUD Secretary and now governor of New York Andrew Cuomo, to do the same with federal agencies. Despite a successful court action by NSSF to counter the threat at the time, the idea was kicked up again in 2010 by disgraced former New York governor Eliot Spitzer, who suggested that gun makers must cease and desist the sale of ALL semi-automatic firearms to escape this punishment.

Well, the obvious response is for gun manufacturers - along with ammunition manufacturers to boycott those cities. No firearms, no ammo. Starve the MF'rs out.

Maybe tell them to go to Toys r us and get Fisher-price whiffle-ball guns for their cops to use.

My thought exactly. I suspect that gun manufacturers would do just fine without police department purchases.

"A strict observance of the written laws is doubtless one of the high duties of a good citizen, but it is not the highest. The laws of necessity, of self-preservation, of saving our country when in danger, are of higher obligation. To lose our country by a scrupulous adherence to written law, would be to lose the law itself, with life, liberty, property and all those who are enjoying them with us; thus absurdly sacrificing the end to the means."

This one is too easy to respond to, if you're of a higher IQ than the typical Crapholeapolis, Keith Ellison voter.

Go ahead, children.  Disarm your police department if business' that already can't keep up with demand, doesn't bend to your will.

Besides, there are plenty enough PDs in other states to keep 'em busy.

What is it with the Left that they seem to be unable -- or unwilling -- to see past their ideology to the inevitable consequences.

There is a gun range in Burlington, Vermont that is no longer allowing the local police department to use its range. They did this in response to similar acts of moonbattery from the Burlington city council. I applaud it. Nevertheless there are tons of people saying that was a dumb move on the part of the range because it's the wrong "tone" to communicate. I am so sick of that pusillanimous attitude masquerading as "oh we have to let cooler heads prevail". We've cooler-heads-prevailed ourselves to the point that the Rule of Law is virtually gone and the Constitution is hanging by a thread.

It's good for all if those PD's don't by ammo. The demand and price will come down slightly and the rest of us looking to buy will pick up the slack. Seriously stupid people making seriously stupid decisions is about as surprising as a Obama is a Muslim. ::laughonfloor::

This is just cover for them and their constits. Remember: They are Libs. Gotta make the Low Info Constits feel like they are doing something about the problem.

If they were serious, they would be talking about mental illness. But hey, that's their largest constituency.
The problems we face today are there because the people who work for a living

This will be a good economics lesson for those mayors.
Sporting businesses will move out of the city, one, and
two, if they all boycott the manufacturers who are they
going to purchase from, Russia?

Gun dealers and manufacturers, it's time to play hardball
it's not necessary to be a gun owner for one to comprehend the un-American tactic
that this coercion is, it's only the 33% that will not and they will never be sympathetic
to you anyway. ...Go for it.

I understand the twisted reasoning on how they make that leap and I know that you understand the twisted reasoning, but the truth is that these theatrics are unnecessary because (even more than us on the right) the left is trapped with their "dnc-elites" (counterpart to the GOP-elites). Who else would they vote for? They would never in a million years actually pull their heads out and vote for sanity.

All any of this does is stir the sh!t. I can't help but think that they are willingly embracing the chaos.

This will backfire, the fools think they can bully people into obeying them, but like all confrontations with bullies the bully only wins if those targeted agree to be a victim.  If it was my business I would announce if they do this we are moving out of their jurisdiction and will offer huge discounts to those loyal customers who can show they do not reside in any zip code where these asshats are instituting their fascist scheme.  And no sales to any LEO outfit pushing this, let them get cheap ammo and weapons from Mother Russia!

Those dummys don't seem to understand how little sway they have with this tactic . Their municipal purchases are a drop in the bucket compared to private purchases nationally . When their police department's weapons are worn out and falling apart , they'll be changing their tunes . How stupid can these people be ?

The gun manufacturers don't make enough profit from sales to local governments to give a swift schitt .

Obviously, I hope this works out in our favor, but the history of capitulation is too vast to ignore. That, and the fact that domestic enemies now have the levers of power at almost all levels means the intimidation and coercion will be applied and felt no matter what jurisdiction they flee to. No governor can do anything about federal audits of a federally regulated industry.
