What to expect if you've never been here before
« on: February 21, 2011, 10:51:59 AM »
So you've found yourself here for the first time. You followed a link, been invited, clicked on a search query... somehow you wound up in this corner of cyberspace. We're glad you did, and we think you will be too!

This is just a message to let you know a little of what to expect as you get to know this forum and its members.

1) The terms of service you agree to when you register are a bare minimum, designed to facilitate the maximum freedom of expression, while still fostering a minimum standard of discourse that will allow the forum to remain vital, attractive, and relevant. That said, the terms of service are the ToS, and it is expected of every member that they understand the ToS and adhere to them. This is the part of the ToS relevant to your conduct here:
You agree, through your use of this forum, that you will not post any material which is knowingly false, defamatory, harassing, obscene, threatening, invasive of a person's privacy, pornographic, or otherwise in violation of any International or United States Federal law. You also agree not to post any copyrighted material unless it is posted with attribution linked to the original source, or you own the copyright or you have written consent from the owner of the copyrighted material. "Fair use" of copyrighted material cannot be assumed. Spam, flooding, advertisements, chain letters, pyramid schemes, and solicitations are also forbidden on this forum.
As you can see, it is a bare minimum standard, and allows for a wide latitude of free expression - but it is a standard to which we are all held.

2) Political correctness is DEAD here, and if you spend your time here trying to enforce it, you'll be disappointed and ultimately banned. That's not meant as an intimidating threat, but as a hearty welcome to those who refuse to be brow-beaten into speech-codes by the Left. You'll find that some of us here refuse to partake in political correctness, to the point of irreverently using political incorrectness whenever it strikes our fancy to do so. That said, political incorrectness is not equal to rank bigotry, and we are all expected to know and demonstrate the difference.

3) A core of our members have been blogging together since 2005. There is a "familiarity of friendship" atmosphere here that transcends the need to always explain every word because we've hashed things over for several years and we know each other, how we are, and where we stand. If you're new here, sometimes that dynamic may seem a little shocking at first, but we promise that you are valued, welcome, and that if you wish to integrate yourself into this community, you'll feel right at home before you know it. Don't be shy.

4) Feel free to start new threads, or join in on existing ones. The vitality of the forum relies on the contributions of its members.

5) Unused accounts will eventually be deleted. There is no specified period of disuse that will result in an account deletion, but we will periodically go through the memberlist and delete unused accounts. If you don't intend to participate in this forum, please save us the trouble of having to delete your account at a later date.

6) We have vigorous and sometimes pointed discussions here, sometimes very much so. We do our best to keep things civil and non-personal - as human beings, sometimes we fail. As conservatives we promote self-moderation, but the Admins are prepared to moderate in those rare instances when it might be necessary or requested.

7) Have fun and stay up-to-date on events in the world! That's why we're here. If you haven't yet done so, why not register NOW, and get started?!?

*Important: A few tips to make things work smoothly for you & protect your privacy....

- Go to the email account you used to register, find your "It's About Liberty" confirmation email, and designate emails from this domain as "not spam". That way you'll receive relevant notices.

- Go to Profile > Modify Profile >
- Click "Account related settings > Check "Hide email address from public" > Click "Change profile"
- Click "Look & Layout Preferences" > Check "Return to topics after posting by default" > Click "Change profile"
- Then click "Personal Message Options" > check the two boxes > Click "Change profile"

- Go to the "Newbie Central" section immediately below this one and introduce yourself!

Welcome! If you have any questions or challenges, grab the nearest person and ask for help!

"A strict observance of the written laws is doubtless one of the high duties of a good citizen, but it is not the highest. The laws of necessity, of self-preservation, of saving our country when in danger, are of higher obligation. To lose our country by a scrupulous adherence to written law, would be to lose the law itself, with life, liberty, property and all those who are enjoying them with us; thus absurdly sacrificing the end to the means."

- Thomas Jefferson
