Will Portman ever answer this question?
« on: March 18, 2013, 11:46:01 AM »
Would Sen. Rob Portman Support Stealing if His Son was a Thief?

Not holding my breath for an answer, let alone an honest one.

ETA - I am reminded of a Jason Lewis quote often spoken whereby he describes someone as holding constitutional principles if they do the right thing even if it means going against something (or in this case someone) close to them.

Portman fails this test miserably.

I just can't understand people whose fundamental beliefs are so malleable. He's not going to garner any respect from the Left in this. I mean, if I were a supporter of gay marriage my initial thought on his announcement would be that he's come around to our way of thinking only because it was suddenly made personal for him. Presumably he would not have come around to that way of thinking had it not been made suddenly personal for him. In other words, his beliefs are not moored to anything external to his own experience. Typical politician, I guess.

No wonder the establishment was pushing so hard for this guy to be the presidential nominee, and then to be the running mate.

I think Portman has a gay look about him. Jus' sayin'.
"A strict observance of the written laws is doubtless one of the high duties of a good citizen, but it is not the highest. The laws of necessity, of self-preservation, of saving our country when in danger, are of higher obligation. To lose our country by a scrupulous adherence to written law, would be to lose the law itself, with life, liberty, property and all those who are enjoying them with us; thus absurdly sacrificing the end to the means."

Depends on what the word "support" means, dunnit?  The devil is always in the details, and the weasel words, with these people as in the "why" the theft was committed, the son's level of remorse (they're always "sorry" when they get caught), and I can see Dad using both those items to mitigate the punishment due, while averring, of course, that he supports his son.

They've no principles and no standards which are inviolable.
