Even as a kid I had a discriminating palate when it came to cartoons. I suppose it came from having older (and waaaay more sophisticated) brothers. I liked what I liked and had zero time for the other crap.

When I had kids I watched to see if that discrimination would hod true. It largely did. There was some stuff that I just couldn't quite get with (smurffs!) but for the most part I was OK with their choices.

I would hate to be a parent now. At some point kids entertainment crossed the Idiot Rubicon and I can't for the life of me understand why any parent with an IQ above their shoe size would ever allow their kids to be subjected to this schlock.

I think cartoons went off the rails a long time ago. Shows like Ren and Stimpy, Beavis and Butthead, The Simpsons, Pokemon, Spongebob Squarepants, Fairly-Odd Parents, and dozens of others - all in one way or another grab our children and either undermine our values we work to instill in them, or rot their brains with mindless time-wasters that are supposedly "so stupid it's funny".

Some may point to Loony-Toons, Warner Bros, or others and say that anthropomorphized animals doing repeated mortal violence and suffering no lasting physical consequence is just our generation's brain-rotting mindless time-wasting. Touche. All I will say is that in regards to entertainment, moral content, agenda, or any other stick one would use to measure, there is a far-cry's difference between Tom & Jerry and She-Zow.
"A strict observance of the written laws is doubtless one of the high duties of a good citizen, but it is not the highest. The laws of necessity, of self-preservation, of saving our country when in danger, are of higher obligation. To lose our country by a scrupulous adherence to written law, would be to lose the law itself, with life, liberty, property and all those who are enjoying them with us; thus absurdly sacrificing the end to the means."

- Thomas Jefferson
