My Uncle the WWII Vet
« on: June 30, 2013, 08:10:19 PM »
My uncle passed away last week, funeral is tomorrow, I won't be able to make it by my folks are going, my father will say some words (he's always getting requests to do so, speaks well).  My uncle landed at Normandy and drove all the way to Germany...went through all that, did some Gold Glove boxing, married twice and a couple kids and lived to 94.  Not a bad run.  Folks are planning a trip from rural MN (SW) to ND/Canada later this year.  I will ask if I can tag along, stop at my uncles grave site and leave some flowers, I know my Father will like that idea.

R.I.P. Uncle.

The passing of the WWII generation makes our country less than it was.

 ::praying::
"A strict observance of the written laws is doubtless one of the high duties of a good citizen, but it is not the highest. The laws of necessity, of self-preservation, of saving our country when in danger, are of higher obligation. To lose our country by a scrupulous adherence to written law, would be to lose the law itself, with life, liberty, property and all those who are enjoying them with us; thus absurdly sacrificing the end to the means."

Sounds like another Great Living America has passed.

 ::USA::

94 is a great run.  My two WWII grandpas made it to 32 and 79 respectively.

Condolences. I hate the idea of losing our WWII generation as it diminishes us all exponentially.
Still as you stated, he lived a full life. R.I.P.

God bless your uncle. ::USA:: ::praying::

I had an uncle that was a decorated WWII vet. I, unfortunately, spent too little time with him hearing his stories. He didn't talk about them much, but I enjoyed it when he did. They weren't called "The Greatest Generation" for nothing. ::USA::

May he rest in peace, and spend eternity in the presence of Our Lord.  To quote Winston Churchill, never before has so much been owed, by so many, to so few.

Thanks all.  The service was with full military honors, my father spoke, really big turnout and family members my father hadn't seen in decades (some with miraculous life turnarounds) showed up.  I think my father felt a lot better coming back home than going down.  Prayers do work.
