AR-15
« on: July 24, 2013, 03:27:51 PM »
Picked up my AR 15 today. Haven't got to really handle it yet ( at work). They used Spikes tactical uppers and lowers, so I showed them a pic of the Spikes Tactical Black Assassin, but gave them direction I wanted a fixed Stock and a defense grip. From there, I trusted them on everything else.

Told me they upgraded the charging handle and a cool feature ( I don't know what it is called) but once the charging handle is pulled and mag loaded, there is a release by the trigger to engage.

I am by no means an AR expert,( or any gun expert, for that matter) so I might not shoot it until my son can go with me. It is heavier than my 22, but not so heavy that my wife couldn't use it.

Still need a scope ( red dot) and a light.

Just a pic of the gun will suffice. We don't want to endanger the camera. ::hysterical::

Glad to hear it, Don! Enjoy!
Only two things I'd recommend are, 1, spend good money on scopes and lights. Going cheap will leave a bad taste in your mouth, trust me.  You'll just end up buying the same things twice.
And 2, Learn your "hold over" and "hold under" for different ranges. Unfortunately that takes a little time and money, but if you do it instead of just plinking, it'll make you more effective and confident.
BTW the release mechanism is called a "Battery Assist Device", or BAD lever, if it is what i think it is youre describing.

Sounds like a sweet set up Don!

And it does seem like some AR rounds are getting easier to find...work on building the inventory as you can.

Have a red-dot on mine, don't have a light as yet.  Have a TLT-1 Streamlight on my Glock21 I like...my forefinger is long enough that I can activate it with my trigger finger.  Will have to see what is available for the AR.

I've been so busy at the lake I haven't had any time to devote to it.

And I don't know about other folks but getting range time has been wicked these past several years...everybody is shooting with more newbs coming everyday...can often be a two-three hour wait...which I don't do...did a lot of that waiting stuff in the Navy, once I rejoined the civilian ranks I don't do much waiting.  Lot of new plans for new ranges in the area though...I'd love to find some people to go in on an outdoor range north of the cities...kind of a big Hikock45 set up...that'd be sweet.

Anyway, congrats and enjoy!   ::thumbsup::
