Forbes - Early next week, Wilson, a 25-year University of Texas law student and founder of the non-profit group Defense Distributed, plans to release the 3D-printable CAD files for a gun he calls “the Liberator,” pictured in its initial form above [below]. He’s agreed to let me document the process of the gun’s creation, so long as I don’t publish details of its mechanics or its testing until it’s been proven to work reliably and the file has been uploaded to Defense Distributed’s online collection of printable gun blueprints at Defcad.org.

Reason - Some people have asked why you would bother to print a gun like this when you can purchase a stronger, more durable gun made from traditional materials. The answer should be obvious: This is an exercise in political theater, to demonstrate that technology is empowering individuals by stripping governments of the ability to enforce restrictions. Yes, you can make guns in a host of ways, including the similarly advanced technology of CNC machines. But 3D printing is a hot and increasingly accessible technology that has been specifically called out by the president. To use it to so easily defeat restrictions (or outright prohibitions) is to demonstrate the limits of the coercive power of the state.

DEFCAD files are being removed from public access at the request of the US Department of Defense Trade Controls.
Until further notice, the United States government claims control of the information.

ZH has this story too - http://www.zerohedge.com/news/2013-05-09/us-state-department-halts-3-d-gun-production-demands-removal-all-online-blueprints

What a load of shyt!  Nobody can take away our rights unless we allow them to.  These guys should ignore these tyrants and their illegal decrees and we should stand with them!  Let the tyrants come with guns drawn, let armed defenders of liberty stand against them!  They want a Lexington-Concord moment?  I'm more than game!  Let everyone see what tyranny looks like!  Let everyone see free men and women, armed according to their right, stand against oppressors!  Come on government goons, wanna fire some of those stockpiled hollow-points into armed citizens?  Huh, well do ya?!

Get Some!

It doesn't matter.

The concept, the data (blueprints) and the incentive to make use of it are already in the wild. Those horses are out of the corral and there ain't no putting them back. In the immediate short term this edict will serve to stifle the dissemination of the blueprints. And then you will begin to notice the effects of UC (Unintended Consequences). UC will manifest itself in untold ways and the result will be the spread of the data at an exponential rate.

The stupid F'rs should  have left well enough alone.

Yep, now those blueprints( and the company) will just move to a friendlier jurisdiction overseas. Failing that, te files will find themselves to the warez sites and torrents and be distributed from there.

I have absolutely zero use for this crappy gun.

That said, I totally resent this illegal and unconstitutional suppression of my 1st Amendment rights and there is only one course of action for me: Download the file from a bit torrent site as a statement of civil disobedience. So I did. I actually downloaded the gun file and then also downloaded the DefCad MegaPak that includes everything else that Defense Distributed had made public before John Kerry shut them down. I am pretty sure that I already had the DefCad MegaPak but downloaded another copy anyway just to put a finger in the eye of the feds.

Others may or may not want to participate likewise. If you do, you may find the files at this site. Be aware that the site is supported by advertising and it is almost entirely "porn" in nature so don't say that you weren't warned. You may find a free and open source bit torrent client (Win only) at this site.

And yeah, come and take it, tyrants.

Okay, so what's new in the "printed" gun world? Well, how about a 3D milled gun? There is currently a do-it-yourself CNC mini-mill that is being crowd-sourced. They are way over their $50,000 goal so I suppose that they will be making and selling these things pretty soon.

Hmm...what does this mean? Well, it might mean that in a year or two you won't have to print a gun or gun part but can instead mill it out of a block of steel or aluminum. Or maybe finish an 80% receiver.

Gun control is dead. It's backers just don't know it yet.

I can only see one good used for this crap.....a weapon that you can smuggle past detectors. Now we, just need to get them to the right people....one that are willing to kill for the cause of liberty and you all know how I feel about the those public servants that feel they are our masters. ::guillotine::
