Just heard the news alert.

Guess you can go to the museum tomorrow after all.

from abc news:

The agreement to keep the government funded calls for $38.5 billion in budget cuts, with no reduction in funding to Planned Parenthood, sources from both parties told ABC News.

Officials expect to pass a temporary resolution to keep the government funded beyond midnight, when it was scheduled to run out, and until the full agreement can be drawn up and passed by Congress, House Speaker John Boehner, R-Ohio said this evening.

"I would expect the final vote to occur on this mid next week," Boehner said. "This has been a lot of discussion and a long fight, but we fought to keep government spending down."

38 bil?  That's all they got?  And the abortion mills still get their money.

Okay.  Onto the debt ceiling battle.

Rove is calling it a win for Boehner, Greta is arguing for the wrong reasons I think (Mute is clicked when an argument starts), where is the panel.  Bret was saying earlier, 'see  you at midnight'.

It appears to stink on ice.

There was something earlier saying that there would be a separate vote on funding PP down the line.So the funding may not be secured for long. But we'll see in the days to come.

I'm having a memory lapse as to the total amount cut between all the short-term CRs and now this $38.5B. Is it safe to say they're close to the $50-60B mark in spending cuts taken all together? Seems like it to me, but perhaps someone can expand with hard numbers.

It's relevant at least to remember that this agreement only takes us through October. Pan's right - the debt ceiling is the next fight, and then Ryan's long-term budget proposal and 2012 budget come next. That will be a battleground. And Ryan isn't just some schlub congressman. He's the chair of the House Budget Committee. He'll be heard loud and clear, for better or worse. By everything we've seen of him so far, he'll make the case as well as it can be made.
"A strict observance of the written laws is doubtless one of the high duties of a good citizen, but it is not the highest. The laws of necessity, of self-preservation, of saving our country when in danger, are of higher obligation. To lose our country by a scrupulous adherence to written law, would be to lose the law itself, with life, liberty, property and all those who are enjoying them with us; thus absurdly sacrificing the end to the means."

What, another deferment of PP funding? Lucy just took away the football once again. Boner is an absolute pantywaist.

Once again the GOP proves, that being a man doesn't mean you have balls.

So, what yer going to do for US bankruptcy day? ::angry::

Leadership deficit from both parties is evident. See you on the other side!

You have to understand that these people are all part of the government, so they think a government shutdown is a Big Effin' Deal.  The whole time, I've been thinking, "Hell yeah, shut it down, and keep it shut."  I suspect I'm not alone in that.

They regard a government shutdown as unthinkable, on a par with repealing the law of gravity.  Oh wait, they already did that.

We're over the cliff now, and everybody's going, "Hey look!  I can fly!"

Exactly how much is 38.5 billion?
