Direct Pay Healthcare Organizations
« on: December 16, 2013, 09:35:51 PM »
Just got back from another night out for freedom & liberty – this one centering on alternatives to the Affordable Care Act, spearheaded by Dr. Alieta Eck (http://www.healthgrades.com/physician/dr-alieta-eck-y6vkx) – there are several Direct Pay organizations rising up to quietly offer another way out. There is a provision in the ACA for these organizations provided they were started prior to 1999.

Three that were highlighted are:

•   http://mychristiancare.org/medi-share/
•   http://samaritanministries.org/
•   http://www.chministries.org/

I’ll be exploring this further, personally, as I look to future alternatives.

Appreciate the input, Pablo. One of the costs which keeps my wife from working part time is insurance. If not being too forward, are you using one of the programs?

Not yet, Don. I attended last night's meeting to begin informing myself of options come the day that our coverage should terminate or change to the degree that it is no longer practical.

I studied the policies and they seem more like a supplement than a traditional health insurance policy. But It appears they do as insurance companies and negotiate with the hospital and then pay the bill, once the deductible is met.

I want to keep this on my radar.

Me too. The overview is that this doesn't address routine visits & well-care issues - it's for larger health needs that would bankrupt one. You pay for Individual/Married or Family plans monthly for "X" amount of visits, etc. - but can also tailor it to your needs, unlike the ACA, which requires abortion services, etc. Looks like a useful option for small businesses.

I wanted to slap it up here, in case others had a potential similar need - glad it's at least useful to you as a starting point for options.  ;)

Yea...I like it. Catastrophic care. I don't mind paying for my doctor visits, etc and the difference in cost would easily cover what times we go to a doctor. This is definitely on my radar. Maybe even worth a phone call. The costs certainly are in line.
