They can't just get out.  Outside of Manila, and Luzon Island in general, it's a pretty backwards place.  There's a reason it's popular with Survivor.

What they can do is to ignore the white trash from the west, and use the money that might be wasted in "sustainable" energy, to build better housing and infrastructure.  Good concrete housing can weather these storms.  Bamboo and tin shacks obviously can't.

The storm is looking slightly less powerful than sensationalized media.  I see Philippine reports put the winds at 145.  Still bad, but not the 190 widely reported.

Yeah, the only option they have (if not able to ferry/fly out ahead of time) is to head inland for higher ground.  But the PI has gone a bit socialist the past couple decades, but then even the old Marcos regime did little for the outlying areas (outside of Manilla and a few other cities) to modernize them.  They are a poor country, but the people aren't lazy...just ill-served by idiots.  A 155mph storm will shred tin and wood easily.

Death toll is high...tens of thousands and more...

As usual, get out of America for the best coverage...

This composite pic they pulled together is impressive -

::praying::  for the dead and wounded and their families.

And this classless piece of useless scat has to use this disaster to bully others into buying Globull Warmink bullsplatter!

“If you have 99 percent of doctors who tell you ‘you are sick’ and 1 percent that says ‘you’re fine,’ you probably want to hang out with, check it up for the 99. You know what I mean? The idea that we ignore that we are in some way involved in climate change is ridiculous. What’s the worst thing that happens? We clean up the earth a little bit?”

What a complete ass!  Third grade debate logic, lack of understanding what real (not junk!) scientific inquiry really is coupled with stunning ignorance...and you get George Clooney!  Just my honest opinion...I think Rosemary should have killed that baby, the world would have been better off!

And no, the worst thing is not 'cleaning up the earth a little bit" dumbsh*t, besides the "clean" BS (asswipe is one of those that KNOWS people will pollute and kill people off because it makes brilliant business sense!  fracking tool!) this idiot is ignorant of how many industries, jobs and wealth will be destroyed to usher in the Green Utopia!

I just want to kick this fool into a bottomless pit!

It's also hyped, the Daily Mail being one of the worst offenders.  Look, it was bad, but hyping the wind numbers serves no one, and hurts journalism.

The maximum strength reached by the typhoon appears to have been around landfall, as the reported windspeeds three hours earlier were 225 kmh (140mph).

Probably not over-hyped for Filippino's...as for everbody else the hype is necessary to pimp more climate change hooey.

Nothing left to loot...

...all in all, I'd say the Fillipinos are a lot better behaved than your average American jackass in an IKEA on Black Friday!

I thought that was more of a Malaysian thing.  The PC (Constabulary) used to be known for exacting stringent and immediate punishment if it was warranted and avoided paperwork...I'm guessing little has changed, but the lack of anything means justice is propbably reduced to whoever gets away with it.

You have to be careful, there.  A lot of people are armed.  Not in the mall, mind you, which was why the Robinson's there has been stripped, but all small business has an armed guard.

http://www.mb.com.ph/desperation-fear-grip-tacloban/

And better off neighborhoods.

Quote
Bright red emergency flares lit up the sky over a gated affluent subdivision in Tacloban City Monday night followed by bursts of gunfire from high-caliber armament.

“That is to warn approaching gangs of would-be looters to stay away as the neighborhood’s residents are well armed,” said a well-to-do businessman living in the adjacent housing development project.

That's how you prep, when in zones like this.

Yeah.  We'll all be in zones like that if the loons keep things up.  Gotta do what ya gotta do.

The truly unfortunate are...really screwed...

This also reminds me how offended I get when the jackasses and race-baiters here get to blathering about how God-awful it is here for minorities and the poor blah blah blah...

These idiots have NO clue what really poor and really screwed is like!  None at all!  Our subsidized up the wazoo poor in this country would be middle class at minimum in places like PI!!!

Heh, like clockwork.  Their murder rate of 8.9 is less than twice that of the US, not 3 times.  Certainly much better than any s**thole American inner city.  Certainly not that high considering that Islamic islands, communist islands, and essentially family run islands are pumping that number up.

Remember, most (all) media will hype with stories of zombies, lawlessness, looting, ect.

Typhoon Haiyan, Some Stories of Courage

21 Post Storm Photos

As bad as Katrina was...it wasn't really that bad of a storm. What made Katrina bad was that it hit a heavily populated  area that is below sea level and has a history of failed Democrat governance that left it completely unprepared for a storm of any magnitude.

The pictures that you will find in the above linked photo journal is what a real bad ass storm looks like when it hits a heavily populated area. If this had hit New Orleans there would have been more killed than survived in the metro area. The only reason why the aftermath of this thing wasn't worse is that the storm moved through pretty fast. A slower moving storm would have left absolutely nothing in its path.

In a doomsday scenario, hippies will be among the first casualties. So not everything about doomsday will be bad.

Yup, ya both right.

And if this had gone through NO at the time of Katrina the leftists would have burned the WH down...the media would have stoked it.

Noynoy Aquino is a Bush like good guy.  Not corrupt and nominally conservative.  The VP, on the other hand, is of the opposite party.

With predictable results

Now admit it.  How many of you could envision an O on all that stuff, if here?   ::hysterical::
