There is a discussion going on, from a British study, that calls for testing by employers to determine if any of their employees are "binge" drinkers, and if so, they can be directed to the proper health/mental health care so as to be reeducated into a productive member of society.

where will this all end, a man was just labeled an unfit parent because he wouldn't acquiesce to his son who had a tantrum because dad wouldn't buy him micky d's and instead sent him to bed without supper.  how cruel!!!

The goal is to have something on everyone. It's the same reason behind all the hundreds of thousands of regulations that nobody even knows exist, it's the same reason behind the NSA recording every electronic utterance you make. They want to be able to have records of some sort of infraction for every single person, so they can use it when it suits them.

It's like in the Ayn Rand book, I can't remember if it's Atlas Shrugged or The Fountainhead, where they flippantly tell the protagonist that the last thing they want is a law abiding citizenry. They want a population of law breakers, and since most people are generally decent that means expanding the scope of illegality until it becomes impossible not to be a law breaker.

Bad enough already the hit's been put out on "smokers", which are really appliances that cook meat, they're not PEOPLE.  Who smoke cigarettes.

The insurance companies we've been with the last few years would send out these mailings to explain to us how to or offer us programs to help us improve our health.  Now I realize the argument can be made they're just trying to lower their costs by "helping" people be healthy but I don't care.  That's not why I'm paying them.  The last company we were with had a nurse calling to talk to us I guess because of husband's stroke. I screen calls so we've never talked to her.      One of my kid has asthma and we'd get mailings explaining how to avoid triggers etc.

I'M NOT STUPID. I can read and figure things out! I'm not sitting there scratching my head, duh, I wonder how I can help my daughter with her asthma??

PLUS I SEE SOMEONE WHO WENT TO MED SCHOOL.  If I have a question I ask him.

I know people who love this stuff.  They work for companies that provide all these extras.

 

I read earlier this year that CVS will require employees to release their health info to the company.

I've gotten calls from our insurance "affiliates" who want to "help" me "manage" the Crohn's and from the prescription drug section who want to "help" me "manage" my prescription issues.  I politely tell them to bug off, I don't their help.

They want to "help" me refill my prescriptions and such.  Trust me, I'm trying to build a small stockpile; I KNOW when it's time to renew.

My insurance company actually sent me a scale that would transmit my weight data to their computer data system every morning.  The reason given was to better monitor my health/weight.  So much for having that extra cannoli the night before.  Talk about reaching into the home.  I never opened the box and sent it back.

I, too, am tired of insurance companies wanting to 'manage' my health. That's not their damned job, not the reason they are in business.  They want to be a Jack Lalanne Studio, be my guest.  But my doctors, and myself, are who are answer to when it comes to managing my health, not the insurance company.

ETA:  And I do believe alcohol testing at work is important, just to make sure the booze didn't go bad.  Oh, they said 'testing' not 'tasting'.  Never mind.  Sort of.

There should be a growing discussion going on via a Patriot study, calling for testing by the citizenry to determine if any of their employees are “binge” liars, and if so, can be directed to the proper authorities and/or end of life cabinet (mandated) so they can be terminated & thus, uhm…become a productive member of the quiet invisible.

This should be a growing encroachment by the electorate, like a big “red” blob, that takes over ethics, morality, character & integrity. No more private vs. public personas – who you are impacts what you do.

I'm gonna step out on a limb here and say that in principle, I have no issue with private employers requiring proof of clean living. The employee can choose to work someplace else if substance abuse is that important to them.

The other day I received a letter from "The Department of State Health Services"  It was addressed to us by name.

They are saying we will be asked to complete a telephone survey about our health and health practices in the month of November.  Quote "all information is confidential and anonymous. We do not know or ask for your name".  See above "it was addressed to us by name".

Here is the most disturbing part. After the answering questions is voluntary, blah, blah, blah, these questions will help guide public health programs, blah, blah, blah...
