Article V to the rescue
« on: November 05, 2013, 04:56:46 PM »
On Oct. 30 the Ohio State Senate voted 29-3 in favor of a resolution calling for a constitutional convention for the sole purpose of proposing a balanced budget amendment.  We're looking for a similar result soon from other states.  We've got 16, need 18 more.  Go to bba4usa.org to learn about this effort.

Excellent news.
"A strict observance of the written laws is doubtless one of the high duties of a good citizen, but it is not the highest. The laws of necessity, of self-preservation, of saving our country when in danger, are of higher obligation. To lose our country by a scrupulous adherence to written law, would be to lose the law itself, with life, liberty, property and all those who are enjoying them with us; thus absurdly sacrificing the end to the means."

I am seriously considering taking an active role in getting this off the ground.

This site may be of interest to those interested in ConCon:

http://www.conventionofstates.com/news/indiana-state-legislature-working-towards-convention-states

Indiana Senate President David Long has invited lawmakers from every state to a summit on Dec. 7 to discuss a Convention of States, NWI Politics reports.

“The authors of the Constitution included a state-led amendment option as a check on a runaway federal government,” Long said. “The dysfunction we see in Washington, D.C., provides an almost daily reminder of why this option is needed now more than ever.”

The initial meeting won't actually consider potential amendment topics, Long said. Instead, it's intended to set up the rules to be followed if and when a constitutional convention is called.

Not to spill the beans...but I would like to get involved too...and attend if at all possible any national convention that convenes...and hope to have a John Adams c.July1776 moment, IYKWIMAITYD!

No.  No Constitutional Convention.  It's got to be, and known as, an Article V Convention, period.

Right. In the current climate, any constitutional convention is going to end up with "right to housing" type bullsh*t.

I'm glad that I'm not the only one who sees the risks inherent in a Con-con. Too many folks apparently see it in a vacuum - not recognizing that the other side will seize the moment when the doors are flung open and our attention is diverted to wreak all sorts of havoc.

This and term limits set my teeth on edge.

IMO, nothing will be settled without the 2d Amendment.

I'm not sure why term limits set your teeth on edge.  Do you not want term limits?  47 years of Ted 'The Swimmer' Kennedy #occupying the Senate not enough?

Unless I'm reading you wrong.

Can't those people be dealt with somehow?

I mean once the doors close...

Otherwise, I say "why bother at all?"...Dan is right.

47 year of the swimmer is a non sequitur. The fact is that term limits would infringe on the damage one individual dhimmicrat (like the swimmer) might cause but it would do nothing to better our chances. Quite to the contrary, term limits would guarantee that pubbies would never again hold elected office.

How you ask?

Because unlike us dhimmicrats are interchangeable. They may as well be clones. Just like a PEZ dispenser once one is used up there is another one just like the last one right behind him. Meanwhile the pubbies are agonizing over whether or not their candidates are sufficiently conservative.

The Free Shyt party has just about perfected the art of electioneering. We're still on the table of contents.

We lose - almost every time.

This is why a Convention of the States should precede a ConCon.

When the blue hats are called by our POS-inChief, the 2A will come in handy.

But, even our founders exhausted every peaceful effort before the call to arms.  I encourage you to follow my link about the Convention of the States.

The 2A belongs to We the People. It is always there. But, do you really want that? Think on it.  Are you prepared for the reality of such a thing?

No one wants to drill people but if the alternative is enslavement then there would be no doubt about it as far as I'm concerned.
In a doomsday scenario, hippies will be among the first casualties. So not everything about doomsday will be bad.
