I wonder if they feel they're about to lose it all, so they're going all in, now.

This was what Obama was talking about a few days ago in his "we're going to remake the courts" talk.

As for the question posed within this thread's title: yeah...it'd be nice if the Washington Times had a need to print more obituaries in the very near future.

Due to the upcoming elections, vulnerable RINOS need plausible deniability to say they couldn't stop this or that nomination.  The nuclear option is just their friend harry providing cover for the "House of Rubber Stamps"

Everything is posturing and play-acting within all three branches of this post-constitutional government.

There is an alternative. I'll not mention it though. You already know.

And when that alternative comes to pass, I hope our new govt treats them as they have treated us.  Those who would deny rights to others, can claim none of their own. If you were a registered Democrat, the government may, upon a whim, seize your property and or place you in jail.  You have no right to a trial.  You have no right to anything.  Don't like it? Too bad.  Get out. Oh, sorry, you don't have the right to do that either.

Seriously, we should move them all to reservations - adult orphanages, where they are told how to live and what to do - treat them as the children they are.

Hawk, I think you're right, but more for the reasons rich stated...my guess is they think they have the ability to run the table for a few more years, at .east, as far as elections go. Couple this idea with the fact that ocare is coming off the rails now, it'll hafta be fixed, or at least mitigated enough so they can steal the '14 elections without having to explain how they did it in spite of the travesty. My guess is they knew it wouldn't work, but felt the pain could be managed this far from the elections. I don't think the r's are clever enough, nor had the info, to realize pushing it off for a year would have benefitted them immensely, which is why we're seeing the aca flop now, not later. D's plan on winning the house and using this neutered filibuster in the senate in order to push through single payer later. Saying this is about appointments only is missing most of the big picture, I think.

I think there's definitely something to this line of thought.  Sort of like all the up or down votes on repealing ObamaCare. Boehner never would attach it to something with teeth. They just wanted to posture and be able to tell their constituents they voted for repeal.

That's how I see it.  After the Senator Cruz Filibuster, the RINOS inadvertently exposed who they really are. IOW, they got caught.  Now, back to fooling the public.

Have you ever thought about why Washington is so close to Hollywood? Acting lessons, plots, action sequences, the villain, the hero...they are consultants.  Wag the Dog notwithstanding

Harry Reid on how the fillibuster protects (Democrat)  minorities

Quote
SEN. HARRY REID (D-NV): "As majority leader, I intend to run the Senate with respect for the rules and for the minority rights the rules protect. The Senate was not established to be efficient. Sometimes the rules get in the way of efficiency. The Senate was established to make sure that minorities are protected. Majorities can always protect themselves, but minorities cannot. That is what the Senate is all about. For more than 200 years, the rules of the Senate have protected the American people, and rightfully so. The need to muster 60 votes in order to terminate Senate debate naturally frustrates the majority and oftentimes the minority. I am sure it will frustrate me when I assume the office of majority leader in a few weeks. But I recognize this requirement is a tool that serves the long-term interest of the Senate and the American people and our country."

The only Standards a Democrat has are the double standards and the only principle is their own power and they will say or do anything to obtain it - lie, cheat, steal, kill. Anything.

Unfortunately, Dingy Harry does not even recognize that the Senate is there to protect the states not the people.

The Demo-Progs are going to stack the courts with Progs, they are going to stick Progs in wherever they can, they are going to float every manner of BS legislation through the Senate with flowery-sounding titles to bewitch the Low-Intelligence-Voter and promulgate through the MFM...and if the House strikes it down they'll have their talking points to demogogue through elections....I think the 2014 & 2016 cycles will make 2012 look like nothing...the level of lying, cheating and stealing is about to go beyond hyperspace and into plaid.  This is only the beginning of the end...and I would expect the eGOP to play right into Prog hands once again...the hill for them to die on has yet to be identified.

Hypocrisy does not shame the Left. It is but one of many evils they embrace for the sake of Leftism. Hypocrisy is a necessary component of the ideology.
"A strict observance of the written laws is doubtless one of the high duties of a good citizen, but it is not the highest. The laws of necessity, of self-preservation, of saving our country when in danger, are of higher obligation. To lose our country by a scrupulous adherence to written law, would be to lose the law itself, with life, liberty, property and all those who are enjoying them with us; thus absurdly sacrificing the end to the means."

- Thomas Jefferson
