Hilarious!
I was listening to
WOR-AM 710 this morning & heard guest host,
Hilarie Barsky, bemoaning the tribulations of
“Black Friday” and the shamelessness/greediness of shoppers arising during the wee hours to save a buck or 2 on plasma televisions, jewelry & the latest kid’s toys.
She maintained that there was something
"wrong" with this sort of behavior, that it exhibited
“frenzied” activity, that it was
"disrespectful" to the Thanksgiving holiday, anti-family & then implored the listening radio audience to chime in with our opinions…so I did.
I called in via Bluetooth & politely let her know that this is
EXACTLY the sort of behavior that we should expect from a postmodern society/culture that has increasingly marginalized/pushed God & religion to the sidelines via privatization & that it, like the apologist’s adage, points out
“If there is no God, then nothing’s wrong.” The point I drove home was that we’re not supposed to bring our religious perspective into the public arena of discourse for fear of
"offending" someone, somewhere.
And what happened next was hilarious…& could not be made up:
Hilarie: “I really respect your views but do not want to get into the religious/God aspects of this. I believe in a higher power, and…”
Me: [I cut her off] – “This is exactly what I’m talking about, Hilarie. You don't want a real answer.”
Hilarie: “No, no, no, I just want…”
Me: “Not only not ‘No’ – but ’Yes’ - you’re part of the problem, Hilarie.”
[back & forth to radio fade...]
She then continued attempting wild stabs as to why this
"problem" exists...
You can’t make this stuff up.
