BRICS - Strange Bedfellows

Yeah, they got a bigger issue trying to work together more than anything!  Will the ChiCom/rooskie effort to weaken American dominance and the dollar help the other members of this loose alliance?  Even under the best scenario this is a shaky economic alliance, and I wonder how India feels about ChiCom military expansion?  Will Brazil and South Africa be unharmed by pushes to ditch the dollar while China keeps the Yuan under tight control?  What will these nations export numbers look like in a post-dollar trading environment.  Beware the Dragon!

At first glance it seems to me that the weakest member of this group is Russia . The only finished product that Russia exports and other countries seem to want is military hardware . They also wouldn't appear to be a strong partner for imports . As a matter of fact one could rightly say that the former Soviets are the most backward members of the group . So my big question is what does Russia bring to the table ? This IS a very strange mix !

What does Russia bring to the table?

A huge personality that controls the most? land mass in the world. They also have undeveloped mineral wealth that China values. They also are quickly becoming western Eurpos sole gas and oil supplier and all the pipelines.

Russian whores aren't a finished good?

 ::hysterical::

Spot on though, where's the market for imports, aside from aristicratic political leaders and mob scum?

Russia makes India look fully developed!

And why would Brazil want to slum with this crowd.

And the ChiCom's will try to play each of them to their own tune!

I thought about the oil and natural gas but they can't run a pipeline to India , Brazil and South Africa . As far as the mineral wealth , "undeveloped" is the key word and  I doubt that they'll want to offer an inordinate amount of that to China . There's still a certain amount of distrust there along with jockeying for position although Russia will be way behind the Chicoms for quite some time to come . Russia finds it very hard to break old habits and revise its ingrained attitudes .

Beware the Dragon!

India has been planning and is becoming a better player all the time.  They studied under the best when they were the best.  They buy from Russia and China, learn and improve the product. They are becoming the "can do" entrepreneur country. If it were necessary to predict the nation to supersede the US, I would pick India.

If Brazil does not make the wrong decision it will be a first.
South Africa, doesn't China own South Africa?

The first article is '09 the other today.  I was searching for a thing I read about 6 months ago.

2009   http://www.nowpublic.com/world/china-taps-russia-s-espo-oil-pipeline
An agreement has been reached this week between Russia and China regarding oil from the East Siberia-Pacific Ocean (ESPO) pipeline

http://www.rferl.org/content/china_russia_presidents_discuss_oil_security/3556210.html
Chinese President Hu Jintao and his Russian counterpart Dmitry Medvedev today pledged to expand cooperation in oil and energy, and discussed global security issues
...
The two leaders also discussed Libya, Afghanistan, the Korean Peninsula and other regional issues.

I think it's an alignment by the code, the enemy of my enemy.  China, by land and *sea has aggressively sought unrestrictable oil sources.

And I think you're right about Rooskies, their dancing to Hu's lead.

And I think I would agree with CO that India could be a good bet, and traditionally the Indian/ChiCom relationship has been somewhat frosty!  And yeah, ChiCom's own most of SA, right?!

A chink in the money play.

"India has said that the SDR is an accounting mechanism used by the IMF, and countries such as Brazil have also said that this (the yuan) should be convertible first,"

Oh oh, Brazil wants the ChiCom's to stop artificially holding down the yuan?!

That's no way to get ChiCom Brownie points!

In wonder how happy the ChiCom's will be and how patient they are to wait for the repairs when something bad happens anywhere along this long lonely stretch of pipeline...

http://www.zerohedge.com/news/2014-09-01/putin-celebrates-groundbreaking-russia-china-gas-pipeline-worlds-longest

...it just screams "blow me up!" to me.

...same risks as the Trans-Alaska right?  How can one be vulnerable to sabotage and/or failure and potentially life-threatening to the planets eco-system and the other a risk-free boon to mankind, eh?

I suspect this is going ot be an asset both sides will protect zealously.  Really all of this BRICS stuff and co-operation is a really, really good sign. It indicates China and Russia may not be playing the "Let's have a World War and use it to cover out financial troubles"  game that the broke western nations are always so desperate to play.  Of course, the New Caliphate may force them to play..   But the Western powers always do this when they are in trouble.. the LET an EVIL POWER RISE - they watch it grow- nurture it.  Neville Chamberlain meet Barack Obama

Yeah, I think the New Caliphate is a major demon that escaped Hell, good luck trying to get along with that let alone try to stuff it back into Hell!

A long wait during construction...now 5 years later the system goes online...

https://www.zerohedge.com/energy/russian-gas-mega-pipeline-china-goes-online-putin-xi-hail-closer-ties

Several thoughts...

*I expect Putin now pivot back to Ukraine & Turkey

*I expect Xi to pivot back to the String of Pearls (SE Asia could be a hotbed of increased activity), more moves to target the dollar while trying to fence with Trump on trade

*I expect an increased opportunity for us to consolidate gains made with our relationship with India...who must be feeling a bit jilted by Russia & China...and the latter may try to woo them back but really what do they offer that we can't and why would they enjoy being the latter's vassal?

*These pipelines still look extremely vulnerable -

They can try to protect the hell out of it...but it goes through a lot of nowhere!
