Nothing really new. Over the past couple years I have read Ukr govt news releases, new laws, etc.  I read that working at a govt job in RU controlled areas is a crime subject to prison or hard labor gangs. They really hate teachers. Voting in such an area is also against the law. I have no idea if the woman below is in custody or tried in absentia. I read a long law of what they want to do to residents of Crimea after they retake it. US Gen Ben Hodges said they should kill or drive off every Russian in Crimea, where they have been for hundreds of years.

📚🆚🇺🇦 General Prosecutor's Office and Security Service of Ukraine have released this photo of the real "criminal" - a primary school teacher in the Zaporozhye region.

Her crime is to teach children at school "according to Russian standards".

Indeed, education has become a true crime in Ukraine.

Pretty anybody not a child or an imbecile knows this...and no it will not ever be discussed in statist MFM outlets...

https://www.zerohedge.com/geopolitical/end-war-ukraine-expose-its-core-lie

...but evens these guys clearly see what is coming -

At some point, a decision will have to be made to either greatly expand the West’s commitment, or abandon Ukraine to its fate. Alas, President Biden’s request for $61 billion in additional funding for 2024 does neither, since Ukraine needs at least five time that amount to win, according to its top military commander. With the Ukrainian counteroffensive already running out of steam due to a lack funding, lack of weaponry, and unsustainable losses, Ukraine will likely soon be facing a Russian counteroffensive.

Before such an assault, however, Russia might offer Ukraine new peace terms, albeit far less advantageous than the ones it offered in March 2022. If Ukraine balks, Russia will press its overwhelming advantage and take more territory, which it does not really want (for a good discussion of why, see former Ukrainian diplomat Rostislav Ishchenko), in order to force Ukraine to the negotiating table.

At that point, the West will be faced with a fateful choice: either accept Ukraine’s surrender or send in NATO troops. Either scenario is likely to lead to sharp divisions in the NATO alliance, since Hungary, Slovakia, and Turkey have all indicated that they want a peaceful resolution to the conflict, not escalation.

The one thing that escalation cannot guarantee, however, is Russia’s defeat. That is because, by confirming Putin’s narrative that NATO is intent on destroying Russia, his support both within Russia and around the world would likely skyrocket. A more divided West would thus be facing a more united Russia, this time supported openly by the BRICS countries, as well as many other major international actors currently on the sidelines. This would effectively turn the tables on America’s strategy of using Ukraine to contain China’s global ambitions. Instead, it would now be Russia and its allies using Ukraine to contain the global ambitions of the United States.

It was, in no small part, the West’s original false narrative about Russia’s goals in Ukraine that has led us to this dismal outcome; European security weakened, the specter of nuclear war, Ukraine destroyed, and America’s global standing undermined. It has already been used once before to scuttle the Istanbul Agreement, which could have ended the war before hundreds of thousands died. For peace negotiations to become an acceptable alternative to mutual annihilation, this falsehood must be exposed and discarded.

The introduction of nukes into Belarus IMO was a mistake, Russia has plenty of intermediate range mobile units in its own territory to project a strategic deterrence to any Western in-kind escalation...while it may have boosted the level of commitment and determination in the Ukraine conflict it cannot be denied it is seen by even moderate Western eyes as a dangerous development in the region...and it seems to have increased the staging of troops and material by the West in Poland and Romania as well as a convenient excuse for adding the new members, so Russia has to share some responsibility for the higher tensions.

But, bottom line...Russia is clearly committed to securing its goals...and as long as hotheads rule the EU and corrupt incompetent trash like FJB runs America...the impetus for a nightmare remains high and rising...

On the oil front...

...it appears tougher enforcement of sanctions is having an effect along with lower prices and discounts.

Unless Trump returns to the White House things can only get much much worse.

I likely have posted this before.  In reporting from Israel the media uses words like Israel proper, west bank, gaza, palistinian authority , hamas, hezbollah, etc. With Ukraine the only words often used are Ukraine, Russia, Putin. If Britain had sided with the south in the us civil war it is  like saying Britain invaded the us and left out the rest.

Who invaded whom? I think sherman invaded Georgia, grant invaded Richmond, and lee invaded PA.

If 'Putin wins" that means the SE 1/3 of Ukr pop will be able to speak in their native language which is often Russian and choose to educate their children in their preferred language. Also they can practice their religion. They will elect local govt officials. They can only do those things under Russian protection. The remaining 2/3 of Ukr can do what they wish except join NATO.

If Kiev "wins' they will slaughter or imprison many of the SE 1/3 based on the laws they have passed and official govt proclamations. People with a NAZI ideology are not shy in saying what they want to do. US Gen ben hodges said that Ukr should drive out or kill all russians in crimea where they have been for hundreds of years. I watch and listen. Russian language will be banned in schools, govt, and commerce. churches will be seized and priests arrested or conscripted. None of this is disputed just not reported much in the western MSM.

BTW the Kiev govt policies on language and religion disqualify them from EU membership. Not often reported on.

IMO Russia has no desire to rule over people who hate them. It is giant money loser for one thing. E.g. in 1915 Lvov the govt was hanging people from trees for speaking Russian. Then WWII. They still hate Russian speakers there. I watched people from the Donbass who fled to western Ukr only to return to donbass as they were hated by the locals. My brother knew a couple from Lvov Ukraine. I think he said they spoke Russian and Polish. Russian was more big city and Ukrainian more rural and had a rube hillbilly aspect to it.

For me, this was the first US war where I could listen to hundreds of military and civilian testimonies on social media.

The problem will be if US and Kiev want to use what is left of Ukraine to attack civilians in  the SE as they have for 10 years. If you believe Ukr artillery on social media this is intentional for ethnic reasons. If Putin dies or is replaced RU may reply in kind. If US was in the place of RU Kiev would be ruble early on not a place for photo ops by the rich and western govt class.

Nothing new. This has been going on for 10 years now but it bears reporting from time to time as this is not reported in the west. . I notice that every time Kiev panics they attack civilian residential areas rather than military targets. I used to watch Kiev military social posts where said the reason was to drive out Russian civilians from their sacred land. Putin recently again refused to reply in kind which pisses Russians off. One theory is that Kiev wants Moscow to reply in kind to show nasty the Russians are to gain sympathy.

On New years eve Kiev attacked a gathering where they knew people would be celebrating in a city in Russian proper. They used high precision western weapons in part.

Independent reporters will walk around the areas with video cameras so people can judge the nature of the targets themselves. Western MSM are not allowed in such areas by the western MSM to prevent such reporting. The local govts allow such presence.

At least 18 people have been killed and 13 others wounded in a shelling of Donetsk by Ukrainian forces, Aleksey Kulemzin, mayor of the capital of Donetsk People’s Republic, has said.

The attack hit a busy market in the Kirovsky District, in the south-western part of the city, Kulemzin wrote on Telegram.

https://t.me/EurasianChoice/33598
In just over 30 minutes, the Ukrainian armed forces fired 19 shells of 155 mm caliber into the residential streets of the Kirovsky district of Donetsk.

In total, there were six artillery strikes of 3-4 rounds each. The strikes were carried out deliberately in a square where only civilians are located. There are dead and wounded.

Such revenge of the Nazis for the advance of our forces in the Donetsk direction.

??At least 13 people have been killed and ten others wounded in a shelling of Donetsk by the Ukrainian forces, Denis Pushilin, leader of the Donetsk People’s Republic, has said.
Describing the attack as “horrendous,” Pushilin wrote on his Telegram channel that it hit a market in the Kirovsky District, in the south-western part of the city, during its busiest hour.
First responders and operatives are working at the site, clarifying the data on the dead and wounded in the attack, and searching for fragments of munitions used in the bombardment, he added.

💥Exclusive Report from The Islander's Steve Sweeney: Donetsk Marketplace Tragedy

In an exclusive video report, The Islander's own Steve Sweeney provides a chilling eyewitness account from the Donetsk marketplace, a site of senseless devastation earlier today.

Capturing scenes too inconveniently graphic for the West's client  media, Sweeney's report exposes the grim reality of a community torn apart. The marketplace, once a hub of life and laughter, now stands as a haunting symbol of the brutality inflicted by Ukrainian forces, armed and enabled by Western arms, NATO issued 155mm shells.

The bloodstained streets of Donetsk lay bare the West's hand in this tragedy. Their weapons, their support, directly fuel a fascist puppet regime's brutality. Here lies the undeniable justification for Russia's SMO: a stark, necessary shield against the West's cynical game of human chess. As Donetsk mourns, Russia stands as the only bulwark against this orchestrated carnage.

This is a big deal. The Guardian reports this? WTF?

Ukrainian shelling of Donetsk shopping area kills dozens, local officials say

Russian-installed mayor and governor say another 20 people were injured in attack on occupied city in eastern Ukraine

At least 25 people have been killed after Ukrainian forces shelled a busy suburban shopping area in the Russian-controlled city of Donetsk in eastern Ukraine, according to local officials.

Alexei Kulemzin, the city’s Russian-installed mayor, said Ukrainian artillery had fired on a bustling district where shops and a market are located. Denis Pushilin, the Russian-appointed head of the Donetsk region, said emergency services were working at the scene, adding that a further 20 people, including two children, had been injured in the strike on the suburb of Tekstilshchik.

Pushilin said the area had been hit by 155mm and 152mm calibre shells fired from the direction of Kurakhove and Krasnohorivka to the west. Local authorities have declared Monday a day of mourning.

The Ukrainian Armed Forces shelled Donetsk again — a civilian was killed

The Ukrainian army shelled the Kuibyshevsky district of Donetsk with NATO-made cluster munitions, resulting in the death of a civilian. The man was walking through the snow when suddenly there was an explosion. He tried to escape in the courtyards, but fragments from an exploding ammunition flew at his feet. Locals tried to help the wounded man, but they could not save him.

During a previous attack by the Ukrainian Armed Forces on a busy Sunday market in the Kirovsky district of the city, 25 people were killed and another 20 were wounded, including two children. Many of the victims are in serious condition. Russia is convening a UN Security Council meeting on Ukraine tomorrow, one of the topics of which will be the terrorist shelling of Donetsk by the Ukrainian army

UN, lol...  Have fun with that...

Rus attack utilities...big whup nobody cares...

And back here protecting their borders is losing steam as our borders are invaded...Ukraine is dead without arms and ammunition aid...there is no winning or reclaiming lost land..all wasting more resources can do is maintain the status quo and keep the meat-grinder and suffering going...their only remaining option is negotiation...and hoping Putin isn't greedy or vindictive...

Frankly I think the slaughter continues...

From headlines I read that RU is attacking Ukr dual use and military industrial targets currently. Utilities was mostly last year. In part because electric trains are used to transport military weapons etc.

Western MSM reporting on shelling civilian areas is new although the BBC kinda muddles the story a little. Western MSM used to claim the Russian were shelling the Russian controlled civilian areas.

Interesting, Uke Spy Chief admits what we've all been speculating about...

"The shortage [of manpower] is palpable," Ukraine’s military top spy chief, Lieutenant General Kyrylo Budanov, told Financial Times in a new interview, describing the most pressing situation facing the country after nearly two years of war.

He warned that "it is not even conceivable to think that we can do without mobilization" — which reflects the consensus of the military's leadership, and strongly points to staggering losses by the Ukrainian side, though an official running casualty count has never been revealed. Russia has also likely suffered immense losses, but can tap into much greater manpower and artillery, which is also allegedly being supplied from such nefarious actors as North Korea.

As part of its report, FT has reviewed that Zelensky recently revealed that his army chiefs requested him "to mobilize about 400,000 to 500,000 new soldiers to replace those killed or wounded, and to rest those involved in the most intense fighting."

https://www.zerohedge.com/geopolitical/ukraines-spy-chief-not-even-conceivable-we-can-win-without-massive-mobilization

If they are burning through that many troops more is not going to help...it will just feed the meat grinder that will claim more Russians and many more Ukrainians...

And, along with this -

Still, Budanov tried to paint an optimistic picture at a moment that even mainstream US press has lamented the current state of the war as a total failure and disaster for Ukraine:

Ukrainian troops never managed to decisively breach Russia’s heavily fortified defences: the frontline remains almost the same as it looked a year ago. But Budanov maintains he was not wrong.

"Although the original plans suggested something different, we kept our promise. This summer, our units repeatedly entered Crimea," he said, referring to his commandos sneaking on to the peninsula to carry out raids on Russian bases.

...Is a kind of admission of strategic failure.  They should have been focused on securing territory the Russians were not entering and never should have attempted any counter-offensive into their defenses...they should have contained them and conducted harassment raids, infiltration and sabotage and intermediate range missile attacks on military targets...and let Russia try to push into your fortified multi-level defenses.

They f**ked up, and now their response is to throw their people into the meatgrinder...

Stupid and wrong on so many levels.

I also recall Kiev announced their plans in advance. Exactly how they were going to advance to the sea of Azov.
Maybe  Russia used that info or not. Russia did put their massive defensive lines in that path.
