If our present government had been around at the beginning of the 20th century, today we'd have an elaborate subsidy system in place to keep on government life support all the industries associated with horse travel.
What about the old ocean liners that finally died off in the 1960s due to the new jet airliners? It was the way to travel between the Americas and Europe for over 100 years. Sounds like they were too big to fail! Yet they did and the economy somehow survived.
