Pan, could you pin this so it shows up all the time? There are "Feel Good" stories all the time, and we need a place to post them so they're all together. (IMHO)

Good idea.  We can do it and see how it works out.

Dog helps doctors monitor child during operation
Wednesday, December 18, 2013

DURHAM, N.C. (WTVD) -- A 7-year-old girl and her dog share an inseparable bond, so much so that her four-legged friend underwent surgery with her.

Kaelyn "KK" Krawczyk suffers from mast cell activation disorder. Because of her rare condition, KK is susceptible to suffering episodes that can include a severe drop in blood pressure and trouble breathing. Even the anesthetic used for procedures to help the child can trigger an attack.

The Apex family wanted to get a service dog that would alert them if KK was having a medical emergency. They got a dog named "JJ" from a Chapel Hill nonprofit called Eyes, Ears, Nose, and Paws. The organization trained JJ to detect the scent KK gives off shortly before one of her episodes.

"JJ is very sensitive and can tell us that KK is having a reaction or starting to have a reaction before we see any clinical symptoms. She's alerted before monitors have been able to catch her reactions," mom Michelle Krawczyk said.

The Krawczyk family said they were very skeptical, but now believe JJ is KK's guardian angel.

A mast cell activation disorder caused my cousin's death. He was 55 years old when he died and suffered with it for at least 10 years.

Brazil's Post Offices Help Deliver Christmas Wishes
by LOURDES GARCIA-NAVARRO
December 19, 2013 3:06 AM

Volunteers look through children's letters to Santa at a post office in Salvador in northeastern Brazil's Bahia state. The campaign is part of a more than 20-year tradition to help those less fortunate to have gifts for the holiday.

Raul Spinasse/DPA /Landov

"Dear Father Christmas," the letter reads, "my name is Larissa. I know that you are very busy and that you live a long way away in the North Pole, but I'd like to ask you for a gift because my mother doesn't have enough money to buy what I want."

There are piles of similar letters — many decorated with stickers, drawings and hand prints — lying on makeshift tables in the main hall of the post office in downtown Sao Paulo.

Another letter, this one from a 10-year-old boy, reads: "My mother died when I was a young baby. I live with my brother and my father. But this Christmas he can't work because he's in the hospital."

A group of women sift through them, looking to choose one. Sonia Regina de Sa, a nurse's assistant, says she's been doing this every year for nine years.

Little girl's note sent to late grandma gets a surprise response

CHAPEL HILL, TN (WSMV) -
Anyone who's lost a loved one knows there are countless moments when all you want is another chance to speak to them again. One little girl wanted to reach out to her great-grandma, so she did it with a balloon.

"I really do miss her, because she was my favoritest grandmother ever," said Bella Hosford, of Chapel Hill, TN.

Bella lost her great-grandmother when Minnie Sue Watts died in August 2012.

"The last day I got to see her, it was a really special day to me, because I knew that she was going to go to Heaven," Bella said. "Whenever I hugged her, the last thing she ever said to me was, 'I love you, Bella.'"

A year later, the 8-year-old girl had an idea to say goodbye: a simple note tied to a balloon and sent into the summer sky.

"Tell Mawmaw I love her," the note said.

Months passed, and life moved on.

And on Monday, came a surprise. Bella got a response when a small box appeared in the family's mail.

"Then, when you open it and you see this brown satin envelope, and then you open it up and you see the locket with a balloon, and then it all hit you," said Bella's mother, Tricia Hosford. "We stood at the end of the driveway for probably five, 10 minutes, just crying and embracing and just absorbing the moment."

Whoever did it also sent a note on the back of the one Bella wrote.

"Dearest Bella," Tricia Hosford said, reading from the note. "Mawmaw is always with you. Just close your eyes and you will see her. Love, your guardian angel."

Teen's act of kindness saves Christmas for another

In the current season of giving, a teenager's good deed may have saved Christmas for another teen.

It all started with a lost wallet and one random act of kindness.

Cedar Hill High School senior Kalen Stimpson had more than $300 on a paycheck debit card when her pink wallet wound up lost. There were also items she valued, like a $2 bill she'd received as a gift.

"I got it on my 14th birthday and I haven't spent it," said Stimpson. "I just keep it."

After drill team practice one night, Stimpson says she stopped to get something to eat, and that's the last time she remembered seeing her wallet.

"I was like, ‘Oh! I can't get anybody Christmas gifts,'" she said. "'I can't because all my money was in there. I don't know how I'm going to get my parents, or friends or anybody anything.' I was just really upset about it."

Kewpie Steward is also a senior and attends Ferris High, about 50 miles east of Dallas, and came across the missing wallet.

"I was just going with my boyfriend to get his hair cut and I dropped him off and parked the car," said Steward. "It was just laying right by my door."

Steward not only found Stimpson's wallet -- she spent $6 of her own money to mail it to the address she found inside, and included a sweet note.

"I looked at her birthday and said, ‘Hey, she's a month younger than me!'" said Steward. "So that's just what came to mind."

FOX 4 tracked Steward down with the help of Facebook friends after Stimpson's mom posted her good deed on Facebook.

"I wish I could just grab her right now and hug her because she really went out of her way," said Stimpson.

Merry Christmas!

Nativity Scene was erected in a church yard.

During the night the folks came across this scene.

An abandoned dog was looking for a comfortable, protected place to sleep.

He chose baby Jesus as his comfort.

No one had the heart to send him away so he was there all night.

We  should all have the good sense of this dog and curl up in Jesus' lap from time to time.

Please note: The dog is a "Shepard."

OKLAHOMA CITY - Several victims fought back against a suspect armed with a gun, leaving the man naked and injured outside an Oklahoma City hair salon.

Employees told police due to the busy holiday, they were working late at "Head Honchos" near N.E. 36th Street and Lottie. Just after midnight on Christmas Eve, a woman said a suspect identified as 23-year-old Corneilyus Howeth jumped into her car and pointed a gun at her.

{snip}

The victims told police they managed to take the gun from Howeth. They then stripped off his clothes, pushed him outside, and locked the door before telling someone to call 911.

January 17 - 19 is the 2nd Annual "Pay It Forward" weekend.

I think everyone knows the meaning of the term.

Pay it Forward 2014

Quote
Beginning Friday Jan. 17 through Sunday Jan. 19, 2014 we are encouraging everyone to "Pay It Forward". We are asking everyone to do at least one random act of kindness (more than one is even better). All you have to do is do something for someone or some organization without expecting anything in return. Pay for a stranger’s meal, send someone a card, volunteer some time. The ideas are endless. All it takes is a spark to get a fire going. By clicking join, you can make a difference and who knows, maybe change someone's life. Get on Board, invite all your Facebook friends to join and let's see if we can change someone's world this weekend. Who knows, it might be your life that gets changed. Last year, we had 3916 people that accepted our invitation. More remarkable is that 50,311 people saw our invitation and cause. This doesn't count the people outside of Facebook that took part. The most important number is the ONE person, family, or cause that YOU touch. Spread the word and help make 2014 start strong for not only the one or more that you touch, but for you personally.

Remember, it doesn't take people doing a lot, just a lot of people doing a little. WE CAN DO THIS!!!!!

One additional note, this page is being used to invite and encourage people to do at least one random act of kindness during this weekend. We will welcome all post and pictures that help us in this, all others will be deleted. Thank you in helping us keep this family friendly!!![/color]

Man rescues dog from the middle of a busy freeway

Updated yesterday at 6:40 PM

HOUSTON—A Good Samaritan stopped and helped an injured dog that somehow ended up in the HOV lane of the Eastex Freeway early Friday.

The dog was spotted in the outbound HOV lane near Tidwell shortly before 8:30 a.m.

Animal Control officers were called to the scene, however it was a Good Samaritan who was able to get there first.

Rickey Young, a father and contractor, said he heard about the problem on the radio and wanted to do something to help.

“I’m just kind of a softy on that stuff,” he said. “I have a dog and would hate to see him on a highway like that.”

As it turns out, the yellow lab mix was badly hurt. Young took her to safety.

TranStar cameras captured the whole thing, including the skittish dog at first trying to back away. Yet Young was able to entice her with his sandwich, and soon the yellow lab was in his truck.
