The proclamation appeared on the White House website. Catholics and Protestants celebrate Easter on this day.

The US president urged Americans to "join together to improve the lives of transgender people". He said they "play an important role in the life of the nation" by serving in the military and holding elected office.

The Biden administration also banned children in the White House Easter Egg Contest (photo 2) from drawing religious symbols, as well as those that might offend on the basis of gender or race
