I guess if he is saying the commies stole his flag...is he not aware their flag was the hammer & sickle...not aware of what that stood for?  Whn he says "they are closet Christians" he seems to indicate he has some idea who they were, but this is his attempt at being clever and funny?

I guess I missed the bible passage that says it is OK for the government to confiscate wealth and redistribute it as it desires to those it deems worthy of receiving it...

From a political stand point I can see what you're saying.

However, several months ago I was listening to some historian/religion expert on the radio and he suggested that Marx used Christian ideals, turning them to his own use and thus creating a religion without god that would lead to utopia (as opposed to a God-filled one that leads to Heaven). I'd never heard that before and found it intriguing. Having read a few books about Islam I'd argue that Mohammad did the same.

Anyway, that's the point of view I took when reading your link. I haven't read the entire interview so I don't have the complete context. I also keep in mind that the Pope Francis seems to be really in tune with the poor as a mission/service/outreach and not as a political issue that's used to further a specific liberal agenda and certainly not in the way many of us in the U.S. see the "poor". Because our poor for the most part aren't poor like the rest of the world; certainly not like the poor of Buena Aires where they live in garbage dumps.

Those distinctions in the differences between our poor and theirs (and much of the underdeveloped world) is certainly true...but there is also something in the Latin nations character that the Church and social politics often ride the same cart, perhaps they have different motivations, but the results are the same, and the result is typically more socialism/communism...and I cannot see the latter doing anything to advance the religious mission of the former...unless the former wants to make the transformation...at some point though dogma will be challenged, and it seems dogma always yields...

...uhh huh, and how many are gay and have inclinations toward pederasty?  The sex scandals involving boys seems to indicate that is a much higher number, and there have been rumors that at the time of Benedict's investiture that the Curia was full of homo's as well as the priests working in the Vatican, not all of them practicing homosexuals, but many were...it has been documented clergy were trolling the gay nightclubs of Rome...and Francis when asked about homosexuals had the snarky reply where he mentioned doctrine and celibacy and thew in the "but who am I to judge" twist at the end!

Anybody looking for this guy to clean house of all sexual predators and deviants better be prepared for great disappointment...
