"impeding an open business"?  All one has to do is look at the vid and see that wasn't happening.  No one was impeded.

Obviously, the charge was made to "fit" the crime because the cop said he wasn't allowed to preach to a captive audience.  ::whatgives:: I guess they didn't find that on the books and had to use impeding a business.

If he'd been wearing a turbin he won't have been treated this way.

I keep saying that we have to put a stop to this kind of thing at the local level.  If this was my community you better believe I'd be calling the mayor and the police department asking if it's their policy to arrest people of faith for expressing their freedom of speech. I'd be at the DVM wearing an I love Jesus tee shirt (standing in line legitimately -- to do business).

This makes me sick.

The government and its arms are turning against the people.

It would be nice if those a**holes would make up their mind as to which law the guy was violating . Was he "impeding an open business" or was he "preaching to a captive audience" ( that's one I've never heard of ... I think the cop made that one up on the fly ) ? When the full arrest report is filed it will show why / who caused to officer to respond . In other words who was the complaintant or did the officer act of his own volition ?

I'm sure he was called.

Have to wonder about the prosecutor pursuing this.

Yeah.  Or the judge it may come before.  Or the community it is conducted in.

Geez, I've had to put up with Bible readers testifying loudly on subway cars at rush hour.  Now that's a captive audience.

I don't think that he'll touch it with a ten foot pole.

And the difference between you and a Christophobic Leftist is that you are mature enough and self-assured enough to understand that another person exercising their free speech causes no harm, even if it is annoying or perhaps personally disagreeable.

These people are using annoyance as a thin veil of justification to enact their real agenda, which is the marginalization and eventual criminalization of public demonstration of Christianity.

The government and its arms are turning against the people.

It'll be their fatal mistake to continue.

Yeah, me too. But I guess if you're stinky and crazy you get a pass. Oh, wait, that must be it.  They don't like it when sane people preach!

That's true, but my free speech includes telling such a testifying moron, paraphrasing W.C.Fields, to shut the hell up -- you bother me.  Which I have done, and I'm not the only one.

Was he standing on private property? I can't tell, but if he was on their private property, he probably doesn't have a case to stand on. he was asked to leave and didn't.

He was at the DMV.   If it's like mine it's in a strip mall--wouldn't that be public?  If he was on private property why didn't the cop point that out? He said he couldn't preach to a captive audience. (Which still gets me as a reason to arrest someone.)

Sure it does - that's what free speech is all about. You just don't go whining to the cops trying to compel another person to be silenced with the force of law. That's the difference between how liberals and conservatives view free speech when it comes to Christianity or any other form of speech the Left finds annoying to their sensibilities.

My mom's lawyer told the story of how years and years ago a man came to his office that wanted to sue his next door neighbor lady for planting flowers over into his side of the property line.  Now this lawyer had some self-respect.  He wouldn't take the case -- he didn't want to be known as the lawyer who sued a woman over planting flowers.

I think of that story whenever I hear some story about someone getting offended and suing.

It does sound like a catch-all premise. If it is their desire to harass a citizen, they will find an excuse. I know of a small town police department whose officers, in private conversation, openly admit that if there's a car they want to pull over they'll just say it crossed the center line as justification. The real "reason" is very often the driver being a young female, or the car being out after a certain time of night, etc. It all rubs me the wrong way.
