Yesterday I decided to make home made Chiabatta bread. The recipe call for one cup whole wheat flower so off I went to get the sealed jar I keep it in and when I got it to the kitchen all I could see was BUGGS all over the top of it. WTF happened in all my years I have never seen that before. Did I do something wrong?

Wheat, rice, and flour often have little teeny bug eggs in 'em; can't really be helped. This is why, when you bring home these items, you stick 'em in the freezer for 3-4-5 days; it kills any nits.
Then, take whatever it is out of the freezer and put it on the counter to defrost and dry out. Just keep rotating the bag until it doesn't feel cool anymore. After that, you can section it up and store it.
This is what we do anyway and haven't yet had bug problems.
Recently came home with a 25-lb bag of Jasmine rice and Gunsmith had doubts I could fit it in the freezer. I love a good challenge. ::evilbat::

Knowing you you were going to freeze it all or die trying.
-
No dying involved; I just moved one thing and slid it in there.
So, you got the drill about the freezing now?

My wife usually tells me to get out of the way. And I'm happy to comply.

I still like to put up a little struggle makes it look good.

If I put up a little struggle, I end up with bruises.

The rice we buy at Costco is vacuum sealed. I would assume that is good for killing bugs, also.

Just do something wrong on purpose if you want out of it in perpetuity. Shrink a favorite sweater... discolor some upholstery... burn a shirt with an iron...

Doesn't take any effort on my part.
I was 33 when I got married. It's a miracle I lived that long because everything I do is wrong.

It's threads like this that I live for! ;D ::thumbsup::

Found the nest as it were: They we inside a zip lock bag with whole grain Cheerios in it. The bag was shut tight but I blew air into it and closed it again and gave it a squeeze and found two perfectly round hole in it. I don't know if they did it or the bag was defective
Either way We have the creepy crawlies and this is getting scrubbed and sprayed and allowed to dry before anything goes back in it.
YUCK!!

So then, how do you think the bugs got inside the sealed container of flour?
-
Obviously they have transporter technology...

I don't know but the cereal was way more loaded with bugs than the flour. When we get done cleaning because were doing it shelf by shelf started at the top and working our way down.
Now were at the bottom two shelves and were going left to right taking their real estate away as we go. When were done I plan on filling the flour container with water and put it upside down to see if it leaks then I'll know.
-
Aha! There ya go.

It leaked!! SOB!! I'm still chasing them around now. there must be some stragglers around .

Git 'em!!
Time to get new, better containers.
