Title: Another ACOC refugee. Dec 9, 2017, a day that will live in infamy
Post by: patentlymn on December 16, 2017, 04:24:21 PM
Hi all. Around 12 noon Central time Dec. 9, 2017 I could hear the death cries of my 13K posts on ACOC course through the internet.  ACOC flatlined.

I was afraid I might have to go out and talk to real people but then I heard about this site.

I live in Minneapolis area.

Hey!

13K posts!  Hoo boy, do we ever know how that feels; The Powerline Blog did that to us a loooong time ago.  Welcome.

You can still post here and talk to real people.   ::unknowncomic::

Greetings and welcome patentlymn. Did I understand correctly that ACOC was apart of Ann Coulter's site? What sort of user-base did y'all have over there?

The Powerline blog did it again to me on election day, last year, when they had yet another mass freakout over their own supporters.

Welcome!

ACOC Ann Coulter Official Chat was a forum that could be clicked on within the AnnCoulter.com site. If you click now you get
chat.anncoulter.com’s server IP address could not be found.

I don't know about the user base. Not huge. I was once asked to summarize the ACOC people. I said they are often self taught blue collar intellectuals who were often ex-military enlisted.  Often religious.  Read a lot.

It grew in recent weeks because the Covert Conservative site was supposed to die but maybe it has a second life now. I think some former ACOC mods are on here now. They might be able to answer.

The forum would split on issues like US foreign military intervention (stand up to the Russians vs leave NATO) and law and order (police are the new gestapo vs we should take their side).

Some faded away, like those below.
Excuse me while I get maudlin.
starman - HI physics astronomy instructor, Navy sub guy, navy then reserve. Died last year.
grumpyeo-ex defence contractor, knew everything about military planes.
griv-former navy sub sonar guy who rode the internet boom.
MN Mark-ex oilfield roughneck then deep sea saturation diver then RV park owner.
Toshtego-ex everything. Lived in CO or NM. I think he lived in a shack without hot water or somesuch. Dropped off the radar.
Og-still around kinda. Ex navy boiler tender (?) very long ago. Or was that grog? Wise.
Doc Trock-CA chiropractor who might have moved to Uruguay. Cantankerous and I liked him.  Many on the site quarrelled with him. Pothead maybe?
Jeepers-pothead.
Women- they all drifted away as I understand it. They kept us civilized. Sad.

Others were still active and might come here.
Do you guys allow argumentative liberals here? ACOC did. You could not get kicked off just for that. Some even earned respect if they stood their ground and made some sense.

Welcome!

I missed that Powerline news.??? They are local lawyers, the ones who kicked over the Rathergate thing. I like their blog. Good pieces. Were they never Trumpers? Scott Johnson's daughter now works for Politico I think. Maybe she went over to the dark side.  A Jewish friend informed me he is Jewish. Who knew? Scandajuvian.

Lefties don't tend to last long here.

We've collectively put up with their crap for so long elsewhere (including the meat world) that I believe the unspoken consensus is that we just ain't interested. That said, there's been a couple of righties who have "rubbed the fur wrong" and made themselves unwelcome too.

My personal opinion is that there are lots of places to "sharpen your blade" if arguing is important, IAL is more of a safe haven.

Wait, how did I avoid being axed for that?
And why do I always miss the blade sharpening opportunities here on the rare occasions when they occur?

Jeez!  Do they freakin' ever learn?!

Iirc, they are/were NeverTrumpers, not that I frequent their place; when they dumped us, I dumped their url.

Sorry, I tend to err on the side of caution now, since I've seen other sites torn apart by the "tone police" and other Prog Tolerance.  I would hate that to happen here.

Which brings me to Weisshaupt's not being axed.  You and I and some of us may debate, we may even argue, but we pretty much stick to the issues and don't let it get personal, right?  We're all on the same side, but you sometimes see the path forward differently; same values, same goals, method variable.  Have I got it about right?

CC is alive and well, several came over from ACOC and some of us were already members of both. JM recommended this site before ACOC died.

Well if you folks think others from your now defunct forum would like it here, you're welcome to invite. As already mentioned, we pretty much have decided that arguing with Leftists is a waste of time, and that milquetoast conservatives trying to enforce PC speech codes or "tone" propriety are shown the door just as quickly.

They say they're not never Trumpers but they changed after Trump secured the nomination.  Scott Johnson, especially, started having regular freakouts over his own supporters.  For example he announced a mass banning in a thread about Bill Kristol, for dissing him.  I sense it's the new, blue collar element of Trump's base that the beta male, Dartmouth onesie wearing pajama boys just can't tolerate, which is why so many don't like Bill Kristol, as he has come out and trashed that segment of the Republican Party, also.  After their public mental breakdown, they still do pieces about leftist freakouts, which is ironic.  The Powerline boys are what Kurt Schlicter refers to as fredocons.

I had not heard that before. It fits.
I would sometimes listen to Hugh Hewitt, when my drive time fit. Then he started freaking out about Trump. He had always been a gracious host but started hanging up on people and squealing like a little girl.

I have been reading Powerline more. I do like the articles. I never knew they had a forum or whatever.

Oh my...that can be a dicey proposition, especially in the PR of MN!   ::speechless::

Besides, we're definitely genuine "real" here.  Welcome aboard.  Reading your list of ACOC refugees I think most y'all would find this a safe haven.

We have a mix from around the nation, a few MN minorities like myself, some vets.  And yeah Pan is not shy about dealing effectively with libiots that start acting typically...if you move quick you can get a few swats in...we are tolerant but won't put up with libiot games or suffer self-appointed tone-police.

Welcome aboard!

Ahhh, reading this thread made me smile. It really wears me out in real life to have to explain I'm stating a fact and not a feeling. And if it is a feeling that I'm entitled to it even if the other person doesn't like it.

I'm surrounded by people who think they're conservative and yet will hit you with a big ole BUT. "I think so and so is wrong or I don't agree with it BUT I don't care what people do privately or if it doesn't affect me...yada yada" In other words, they don't care because they're just as self-centered as the people they supposedly disagree with.

The correct statement is "So and so is wrong."  Not many places that can be said out loud.

It's amazing how  many conservatives are infected with the progressive/secular thinking and don't recognize it.
