Title: Speaker Boehner, Please Stop ......
Post by: Pandora on July 29, 2011, 12:55:47 PM
Quote
The House has passed two bills related to the debt ceiling. The Senate has yet to submit a counter proposal in writing. All of their proposals, including the President's have been verbal, which even the CBO says they can't score.  Why then does the House continue to try to scramble to put together legislation that doesn't have a chance of passing in the Senate?  The Democrats are making the Republicans look like idiots by saying, "Jump!" and the House Republicans keep responding by saying "How high?"

Speaker Boehner: please stop trying to draft any further legislation.  Change two words in the Cut Cap and Balance bill and re-send it to the Senate.  Then dismiss the House members and tell them that you'll call them back when the Senate has submitted a response for consideration.  Period.  And make sure that every single Republican emphasizes that they have done their job and the Senate Democrats have not.  They still haven't put anything in writing!  Shout that from the rooftops! Stop playing nice and start saying it like it is.

EXACTLY!!!  Bell rings/dog drools!

STOP!

Ideology aside, Boehner has to be one of the most incompetent Speakers in recent memory. Honestly I don't think he even knows what he is doing from a procedural standpoint half the time. "The Stupid Party" could not be a more relevant moniker.

Interesting Nugget About John Boehner’s Bill (http://www.redstate.com/erick/2011/07/30/interesting-nugget-about-john-boehners-bill/)

Quote
Guess who wrote it?

The late-night jousting in the Senate followed a vote on House Speaker John A. Boehner’s debt-limit measure, which would extend the Treasury’s borrowing power until early next year and force another economy-rattling fistfight within a few months.

Drafted largely by aides to Reid and McConnell last weekend, the measure was originally designed to appeal to the more centrist Senate.

Everything we’ve gone through this week was elaborate theater to get us ultimately to an even worse conclusion. At least 22 Republicans didn’t fall for it.

Boehner has shown he has neither the guts and/or intelligence to stop submitting worthless pieces of legislation to Reid and company. Dems have around 20 seats up for re-election soon, so reid isn't gonna force them into a vote that will get them grilled back home. Reid is political posturing only. So is obama. The ONLY WAY TO GET THEIR ATTENTION is to not play. Then, when libs blame republicans, it will be with sweat running down thier collective foreheads. Mr Boehner...Call thier damn bluff.

We are the party of stupid.

The first indication of a deal was when Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid (D., Nev.) abruptly delayed a late-Saturday night test vote on his plan lifting the federal debt ceiling until 1 p.m. Sunday afternoon, and said the move was made at the request of the White House.

Then around 11pm Jonathan Karl of ABC and Major Garrett of National Journal (formerly of Fox) have both announced a deal to end the debt ceiling stand off. Both reporters are describing a similar deal, which is very close to the Boehner plan but it has an automatic trigger in place to secure the "second half" of the debt ceiling increase, so no new negotiations will be necessary in December.

The deal begins with a short term increase of the debt ceiling, just a few days worth so the deal can be put in legislative language and passed.

Other component parts of the tentative deal include:

At Yid With Lid (http://yidwithlid.blogspot.com/2011/07/breaking-deal-boehner-and-white-house.html), courtesy of ACE.

Frankly, at this point my head is spinning.  "Cuts" are included, but no timeframe.

Yeah. A "cut" in Washingtonese means "not spending quite as much borrowed ChiCom money as we were originally planning to; will probably be reversed by a future Congress".

Plenty of money, however, when you bought and paid for by those that desire the country to be indebt up to our eyeballs, well, you get the drift. ::slapfight::

A thousand people with guns to charge the hill and let the executions begin. Then we shall have our country back. Other then this drastic draconian measure, I doubt we'll ever be able to take the ticks off the host.

Starve them all, quit filing and paying the country's bullsh*t progressive income tax. Can't jail everyone. Mus tbe the biggest reason for tax amnesties and settlements. The theivng bastards would much rather you settle with the promise that you'll file and pay in the future. What a scam, wish I thought of it, better yet, I wish our ancestors were a bit smarter than the actual useful idiots that proceded to assfvck the future generations.

Please forgive my bad language, i'm Royally pissed that I can do nothing but start the freakinig revolt.

The Repub's are committing suicide if they think passing this is a good thing or the only deal possible!  Ceding congressional spending and debt limit authority to "The Destroyer" (Obamakov) while protecting every socialist program is the very definition of insane!  If the House lets him have this, the Repub's are toast, period.  They will have opted for obvlivion as a national party.

Bottom line:

Currently we have to borrow money every month to keep the store open,
with the passage of this bill, we will still have to borrow money every month to keep the store open.

Even if we frooze spending for the next 10 years at this year's base line,
we would still have to borrow money every month to keep the store open.

But, instead of going in the hole for 10 trillion over the next 10 years,
they have agreed to just going in the hole 8 trillion for the next 10 years.

Gee, I feel so much better. :)

Yeah, no need to read teh comments at that site!
I think Lee is a good guy from what little I've seen and I wish him the best. Hope he doesn't cave.

This whole thing is absurd. Stuart Varney, whom I think very highly of, said what R-man said re: borrowing/spending less...but still going in the hole by 50% from where we are now!!! How the f**k does that solve our problem?
I told my kids today that the average debt owed by each of us is somewhere around $45k and my 9y.o. boy, who can't really grasp the amount, looked stunned and said, "But what did I do to get stuck with that?"

Warpmine is right.
Only one way to solve this.

I like the avatar. I believe it is the literal truth, too. I often find myself wondering in amazement at the fact that our colonial ancestors were, in so many ways, less harassed by the British Crown than we are today by the government instituted to replace it.

Yeah. Remember teh row it caused when I first put it up?

I tell ya', I'm only keeping one eye on things and having a fantastic summer. I know what needs doin', but I'm not gonna' let my time get commandeered by these scumbags. I'll get the rage going again when the timing is right.

I don't blame you for indulging in diversions. I've sort of crossed a line where the only satisfaction I have left is pure unbridled schadenfreude when the enablers and useful idiots chafe at the impositions of their own creation. The whole debt ceiling debacle (remember when the continuing resolution debate was brushed aside, so that we could "focus on the real fight ahead", i.e. this?) has provided ample and conclusive evidence that there is no hope whatsoever of achieving a political solution to this country's grave peril. The Republican party has made, as its semi-official policy, the idea that they do not have to be good or worthy, they simply have to be not quite as sh*tty as the Democrats and they'll always have our votes. "What are they gonna do, vote for the Democrats? Ha!" -- that's the GOP platform.

And, no, I know that a third-party challenge is hopeless. Weisshaupt mentioned in another thread that he thinks some people find his assessments too pessimistic, but I don't think that's the case at all. He is exactly right in the things he says.

Seriously -- at this stage in the decline of the republic the intellectual and emotional energy spent on politics would be better vested in other pursuits, namely those things that are likely to prove useful in the dark times ahead.

The submissive Pubbies, by nature, give it up to their masters while listening to love songs telling them they have won.  Oh listen to Maxine rail against you,  you have won big time, bah.

However, there will be no downgrade, S&P and Moody's can't afford to do it.  The Dems, by pointing out prier inaccuracies, even though they were doing the Dems bidding, are warning the agencies of future retribution if they downgrade.  Thus, we have another "independent" agency  of a free society co-opted and no downgrade.

My gal Michele voted it down.

I dunno Charles, you see the economy pooping itself and a bunch of Ruling Class idiots seriously addicted to spending and I don't know how one doesn't downgrade this paper.  At some point "too much" will be defined.  We're already way out of the historical Debt:GDP ratio, what makes you think this will get better?  Obamakov tries to force taxes up, the economy will collapse and government receipts will evaporate...screams for massive cuts will commence and the left will die rather than cut anything...there is no good end here as long as Ruling Class fools hold sway.

More Ruling Class trash has to be purged from the GOP, but a) do you think their cheerleaders (like The Butthead) will stand pat while the Tea Party targets more good republicans? and b) do we really have the luxury of time to bother with this for very long anyway?!

Oh hell no.  The "cuts" weren't to start taking place for a couple years anyway, the rest further out.  This Congress cannot bind a future Congress now anyway; the Balanced Budget Amendment is supposed to remedy that.

Cuts.  I have to laugh.  As I understand it, the "thinking" runs like this:  government is presumed to grow (forever) at a rate of about 7%; the "cuts" are "minimizing" that to 5% ..... or 4%.  Or something.  Still growing, just a little less, emphasis on the little.  I figure this is what the "progressives" mean by "progress".

Furthermore, the House was sold on the idea that raising the debt ceiling was for paying for money already spent.

And the F**kstick in Chief is on now, gloating.   ::rockets::

So, Mr. "Conservative" Pundit, Mr. Speaker of the House, who've been saying "this is the best deal we could get", what have y'all got to say now?

I'm sick to my stomach.

I hope he knows he's toast next election. We WILL NOT forget. At least I hope his constituents don't forget.

All this proves is the liberals think the last election cycle was an abboration and the republicans believe a few tea partiers satisfied the masses.

Next election cycle, rid ourselves of more democrats and more pseudo conservatives.

Being toast next election isn't enough. Until they feel genuine fear in their hearts none of this crap will change. And I've got news for them: in this crappy economy there's an ever growing population of people who feel like they have nothing left in life to lose.

Yea...they gotta have fear in thier hearts. First, if you are a rino or liberal, too scared to run. Next, the fear of becoming the minority in your own party.... For those left, who have not faced the voter and want to keep thier job, will become responsible with thier vote.
