Yeah...colder than a demonazi's heart.  So cold I actually saw a leftist with its hands in its own pockets.

Got snow?  Check.

Got cold?  Check.

Working from home today?  You know it!

Cold? In winter? Fo' REAL???

It HAS to be climate change. It's never been cold in winter before.

I'd laugh so hard if they blew this one.  It was supposed to be well below zero, this morning, and not to climb back above until Friday.

It's +1.1 on my thermometer, actually warmer than the +0.1 it was when I went to bed.

I'm on the north side...I just went from -9 to -8...but supposed to get worse and hit -11 for a high, dip to -28, hit -15 tomorrow and -30 tomorrow night and -4 Thursday and a balmy +12 Friday.   We'll see.  Seems like when they miss they miss more on storms and precipitation.  Storms make sense...precip not as much.  And in winter everybody should see this crap coming a long way off.

https://www.goes.noaa.gov/GSSLOOPS/wcir.html (https://www.goes.noaa.gov/GSSLOOPS/wcir.html)

That low moving east is sucking all that cold right down on us...even the dumbest TV weathercritter should see that.

45 minutes from sunset...

-15

-17 at lake...huh, so it could be worse.   :P

That'll keep the rif-raf off the street!   ;D

A couple years ago(? cannot remember) it got cold but not this cold, little snow cover, and my sewer line froze. I live in the city 55112 zip.  The only thing worse than freezing is having sh*t back up in my basement in winter. My house is old. It only happened that winter.

Maybe I could blow hot air down the sewer line?  I just hope ....

Sounds like New Brighton area...Water damage of any sort in any weather stinks...in cold it's just an extra mean slap.  Regular flow using keeps ingoing and outgoing pipes clear...but when air temps get this bitter flow isn't enough.  Insulation and heating methods that are safe should be employed.  We keep lake at low temp but still shut off the water.  My sister got PO'd over that when making a visit earlier...left dirty dishes in sink...I yakked about it, she shot back "why do we turn the water off?"...yeah, for days like this.  Some of the pipework there is barely sheltered from the cold...and no regular flow could be catastrophic in merely freezing temps...bitter cold like this would wreak havoc in no time.  Even in the little pump room we shutdown we keep a small electric heater set low just as a backup.  We would need to do similar in other spots around the foundation if we stayed all winter.   Heard some folks in Minneapolis lost power, never heard a direct cause.  Do what you can and good luck.

-24 actual, -55 wind chill.  Predicted -28 with a shot at the -55, which ties the all time wind chill record.  Still saying -32 tonight.  We'll see.

Polar Vortex exploitation!

Why is it my weather app says -15 in my nape of the neck and also tell me there is zero wind...and still give me a wind chill of -32?!

They have a fudge-factor of 7 MPH on 0 MPH wind?

http://www.onlineconversion.com/windchill.htm (http://www.onlineconversion.com/windchill.htm)

WTF?!

It's a conspiracy I tell ya!!!

I'm goin' out for a cigar...polar vortex...weather clowns...

Missed the all time record by a degree at both ends.

Maybe the next 20 year cold spell...

I'll be honest...yesterday at twilight while enjoying my puro out front...it was brisk...and after a half hour the pain in my toes told me that it was time to go in before numbness took hold and led to no little piggies.

Bottomed at -26 here last night, so again not quite as bad.  The rollercoaster continues - +18 tomorrow, +33 Sat, +43 Sun w/rain, freezing rain and snow into Mon and then more normal temps...

I hear talk of pointy-headed climatologists still leaning to a cooling cycle...which will make it harder for folks to pay attention to chicken-little calls for carbon taxes et al...oh the horror, their taxpayer shakedown dreams sinking like cold air!

I wouldn’t want to face this, uhm . . . polar, bare.

In Joisey does such weather put a crimp on the street economy or does everything just go indoors somewhere?

We did hit -30 after all.  A new all time record.  The Quad Cities, where I'm originally from, hit -33, a full 5 degrees colder than the previous all time record.  Now THAT is impressive.

More folks @ malls, I think (not a big one to go myself, but I drive by one most days & the parking lot tells the tale). All the street crack dealers have big barrel fires to warm their hands 🤣.

And just like that, back up to freezing, on the way to the mid 40s.  The good thing about being south of Minnesota is that you can bounce back into better weather, pretty quickly.  You guys are stuck with this crap until March.

Nice 'Soup.  Heh!  Maybe you can exploit some chicken-little's since the end is nigh?

 ;D

27F would feel swell right now.  After our dip into the deep freeze and brief warming...we are back to more normal mid-winter temps...though that damned wind yesterday nearly tore the flesh from my hands while pumping gas last evening...that sucked and blowed!  At least the main roads are clear and dry...that is a huge plus when you get it.

I bet your snow out there probably of the wet variety too...we usually get that more in March and April.  Didn't I hear that bogus rodent predicted an early spring for once?  Seriously, people in that town need a new gig...

We have more piles, and a nice ice-seal to lock it in.  Kinda funny how I-90 acts like a real barrier sometimes, no matter the season....

The weather-liars have alerted us to a new front moving in and it's Snomageddon all over again. You can taste the panic in the air as the sheeple scurry about in their preparations for the End Days (since when did they get religion?!). Temps have dipped into the mid-teens and there is still the remnants of the last snowfall lingering about.

At work my boss is calling for volunteers to work the weekend and it was with great pleasure that I told him of my need to rearrange my sock drawers instead. I'm taking today off (burning through my personal time before retirement) and leaving him in the lurch. I might call in "sick" for Monday depending on what transpires.

Let it snow,
Let it snow,

Friday's storm hit with a vengeance. The dumpage varied from 3" to 12". I woke up to ~8" and temps in the teens again. I spent Saturday clearing the snow from the roof on my greenhouse (lost one 2x4' section of roof), my patio, and two rubber-rooms. Tonight they're promising 4-6" and a redux on Tuesday.

Make it stop.

Yeah, I heard y'all out there got dumped on...that wet heavy pacific stuff no doubt.  We usually get that March & April...call them branch busters (not play nice with powerlines...seriously, people in MN need generators...winter storms, spring storms, summer storms...hello?!) or we call 'em widow-makers...not so common now with snow-blowers and plows...used to see a spike in heart-attacks in heavy wet snows.

Hope it slacks off enough for ya to do repairs!

Yes, more  ::cussing::  ::snoshovel::

I thought I heard one tv weather geek say we only needed a few inches to get a new (modern) record for snowiest February ever and we are supposed to get 6-8"...and at the rate it is coming down that looks about right.

In even worse news...(yes, in Minnestupid there is always worse, progs make it so!) our newest lame-ass demonazi Governor "No Balls" Walz is wanting a $0.20 bump in the gas tax (would vault us to 4th highest state) supposedly to pay for bridges, roads...all that sh*t the previous moron Gov "Pills" Dayton passed on doing with a $1B supposed "fund" for that purpose so we can blow more on non-producing citizens and illegals and special proglodyte interests.  This state is just a constant double-kick to the crotch!   Good thing I self-identify as a non-resident Wisconsin citizen held hostage in Minnesota, or I might feel worse.

 ::unknowncomic::

ETA - Caught local weather over lunch...record "unofficially" broken, official NWS stats later tonight.  They flash up these snowiest months, days, years...I've lived through a heap of 'em...it's just these latter ones seem to drag more...oh, and more idiots on the roads, roads that haven't been widened for more lanes or choke points by-passed...and out of state/country imbeciles...just makes normal issues worse.  Progs, they ruin everything!  Even winter!

Oh, goodie, guess what it's doing outside today?!

Yes, more  ::cussing::  ::snoshovel::

Just to make you feel better, once again we didn't have snow down here. ::exitstageleft::

However, my yard hasn't been dry since October. ::bashing::

Yeah, the sportsman's paradise tends to be on the juicy side just as a default I reckon.  You get snow down there...it ain't gonna be good news for me...it'll mean the geographic north pole changed location to my backyard!

Cedar Rapids is almost 50" over the last 7 weeks.  It looks like Minnesota out there, with roads looking like tunnels, the snow on each side is getting so high.  We basically had no snow, going into January.  My deck (in forever shade) is waist high.  5th snowiest winter in history, thanks to just these few weeks.  And the -30 was an all time record.  Lucky me.

You probably have to go back to 1979 to find this combination of heavy snow, record cold, then the 1930s before that.  Every 40 years it seems.

Rained here in NC ... with thunder and lightening.  Old tale says thunder in winter means snow within ten days.   ::confused::

Old tales usually based upon past events repeating a pattern, cannot be dismissed out of hand...

Red sky in the morning, sailor take warning...red sky at night, sailor's delight.   ;)

Man...I'm tired of winter...the sub-zero crap while a pain I can handle, the piles of snow is another thing...I am seriously worrying about roof damage and the HOA isn't as on top of snow-raking roofs as they should be...and the curtain of icicles some as big as my arm...but then I read stuff like this and realize yeah, it could be worse...

Looks like we're finally coming out of the deep freeze, later this week.  30's by the weekend, 40s next week.  That will melt the snow, fast.  I can only remember one other winter (when in Iowa) that the winter snow pack made it into March.  1979.  I know it's common in Minnesota, but not central Iowa, to have that snowpack last so long.

It won't be warm enough in MN to melt much, supposed to get more snow this weekend too...and March is typically a snowy month...

And at the lake there is simply no where to put the water that has all but swallowed everything...
