For hurricanes, I rely on the computer models.

Looks to be tirning north (and shifting landfall more east) now.

Would that be the ones who waited for the government to save them?

Really.  I'm very interested in seeing how much Obongo will help LA this time, in view of Jindal's governorship.

It keeps shifting west. It may not threaten NO at all when it makes landfall. No one knows. It is still not at hurricane strength as I write this...it needs to slow and strengthen considerably to be a real threat.

That said, NO is still below sea level last time I checked and even a wimpy hurricane would be a problem if it made a direct hit on the city.

But it's also moving fast and that would mean a short duration over the city if it did hit there.

Thankfully, there is a new mayor (yet another in a very, very long line of congenitally corrupt Landrieus) and a Republican governor this time around so I would expect a much better disaster management scenario. Plus a lot of stupid people died last time and quite of few of the surviving stupid people were shipped out of town and never came back. I also imagine that there are a lot more firearms in the hands of the citizens so that should be better this time around...i.e., the shop owners can better shoot the cops who attempt to loot the stores.

I wonder if they'll try to confiscate them again? And if the storm misses NO, look for any mention of it to disappear quickly. The LSM  wants another Katrina soooo badly.

I had that same thought, sick as hell it is, that's our media!  A crisis for Duh Wun to manage magnificently (that's what they'll say, no matter how badly he eff's it up!)!

Looks like a near unanimous decision on New Orleans -

Doesn't matter where it lands. The LSM will be disappointed with the lack of destruction. They'll put all of the drama they can into whatever damage they can find.

An so an act of God almighty will suck the life out of the GOP convention.

It's not God's Act that'll be doing it, it's the Grand Poobahs of the Republican Party, such as Krauthammer and Bill Crystal, who are advising a more somber tone because it won't do to be seen "celebrating" with death, doom and destruction on the horizon for some.  Well, there are starving children in North Korea every day of the week as we speak, along with multiple child-murders in Chicago, so why not just don the sackcloth and ashes permanently.

This looks like a pretty weak storm to me. I'm not sure it will even be a hurricane when it makes landfall.

Media hardest hit.

What is Jindal doing?  Seems to me he ought to be lambasting dummocraps on one hand and telling the convention to go full steam ahead as he has LA covered.  WTF?!   ::whatgives::

Local weather forecasts we're likely to get some "related moisture" from Isaac.  No I have to f**king interpret weather-speak for "it may rain".  Can no one speak plain English anymore?

I'm not a fan of Governors going hat in hand to the Fed's, but the criticism in light of what Bush got heaped on him makes me enjoy the criticism.  Criticize the big gubmit morons and Obama and then do all you can do for your own and pronounce "we did this in spite of Obama's foot-dragging", that at least has some PR appeal.

This storm is a big nothing. It's an ordinary storm by just about any basis you care to name.

The media is apoplectic, of course.

Will there be damage? Yes. Sure. It would be a miracle if there wasn't anything significant. But...we're talking about just ordinary storm damage. Trees and power lines down. A few homes flooded out. That kind of thing. The levees are not going to be breached by this thing. The storm surge simply isn't high enough. If any levee fails it will be due to the usual Lousinana corruption hijinks where what was paid for was not delivered. But even with that low possibility scenario I don't think a levee is going to fail.

Will there be deaths? Probably. But only from stupidity. Anyone who takes reasonable precautions will be fine.

This storm is a dud for the media. They are hoping against hope that somehow a miracle (for them) will happen and the storm somehow becomes a CAT3 or CAT4 so that they have some nice visuals to put up against the RNC convention. But it's not going to happen.

I will say this: If it had been a real frickin' hurricane it is in the perfect path/location to take NO out for good.

But, no...this is a wimpy storm. The atmospheric pressure is too high at 969 millibars. It would need to be in the low 900's to qualify as anything even vaguely scary.
