Since I don't have anything to be excited about with the Steelers, I'm liking the Pirates.
Long, long drought but they finally put it together this year.
They got some horses.
Since I first saw McCutcheon, I knew he was a ball player; someone to build around.
I have no illusions that they have the ponies to take them to the World Series but it's been a great year for them.
I go back to before the 1960 Pirates and, to me, there will never be any one like Roberto Clemente.
Back then, baseball was the national pasttime.
Pete Rozell hadn't started making the NFL yet
Allow me to indulge a little.
Thanks

Being in Twins territory, baseball was over by May. ::hysterical::
In the NL those pesky and either very lucky or well-coached Cardinals look good, and in the AL I think Oakland might be tough to beat, those are the two teams I would least like to have to face anyway.
That 3 teams made it from the same division speaks well, Pirates got as good a chance as any.
Arrrgh!

I think the Cards are well managed.
See what happens Tuesday

Reds at Pirates...Reds kind of skidding and I like our old Twin Liriano in this match up so I'll go with the Pirates.
Rays at Indians...Rays won the play-in vs TX 5-2, this matchup looks a push though, give the Indians a slight advantage.
Good luck!

I heard a discussion that baseball is being hurt by the fact that there are less dads taking their kids to games...that baseball is a father-son sport unlike basketball or football. I thought that was interesting.

Cost of games has gone up, after factoring in tickets, parking, food...and lots of fathers out of work...other family commitments and changing demographics etc I guess it is not entirely unexpected.
I have good memories of going to all sorts of games with my father - baseball, hockey, college football & college basketball... ::thumbsup::

Hey AP, PIT 6-2 over Cincy! ::thumbsup::

There was an old song:
the Bucs are going all the way, all the way
The Bucs are going all the way this year.
That would be a Cinderella story

Ouch! Tough one yesterday! I told ya them Cardinals are tough!
-
No doubt, Libertas.
It would be a true Cinderella story if the Bucs advanced very far.
However, I heard a stat that, this season, each team is averaging 2 out of 3 at their respective home fields.
Today will be telling.
Many times I have seen a team take a shellacking and come back POed and really fired up.
Today will be an interesting game
-
Yup.
Todays matchup looks like it could be anybodys game.
-
Looking good in the top of the 7th. 6-1 Bucs
-
Yeah, only 3 hits given up so far. ::thumbsup::
-
Series tied.
goes to Pittsburgh where the Pirates are 7-3 this season against them
-
Need just one more to advance to NLCS
-
I'm happy for ya AP!
::beertoast::

I'm glad that blown call at third didn't cost them the game. One more AP! ::thumbsup::

I'm no longer an avid sports fan but am enjoying this success.
Baseball was my first love as a kid. Anymore, I'm really a casual fan but I'm enjoying the ride while it lasts.
A few years ago, I stopped dedicating my Sundays to the Steelers when I figured out that their success or failure had nothing to do with my own.
Hockey? Penquins seem to contend regularly but I don't follow hockey.
Heck, I don't know if the puck is blown or stuffed. I did figure out there are no rules in hockey. Well, I think there are three.
But, baseball is an art form

I'm casual in most things...stinks like Viqueens and Twins and T-Wolves (and I guess you can lump the Wild in there too..."Wild"...what a stupid name!)...college hockey, football & basketball has always been more interesting to me...but I too have a more take it or leave it attitude now...the best thing I did was give up fantasy football, my God what a useless waste of time! And I did it for over 20 years!
