Florida Judge Orders Mosque Leaders to Follow Sharia Law (http://mypetjawa.mu.nu/archives/206888.php)
In Tampa, Florida, a dispute arose over who controls the funds a mosque received in 2008 from an eminent domain proceeding.
Former trustees of the mosque are claiming in court they have the right to the funds. Current mosque leaders are disputing that claim.
The current mosque leaders want the case decided according to secular, Florida civil law, and their attorney has been vigorously arguing the case accordingly.
The former trustees of the mosque want the case decided according to sharia law.
Here’s the kicker.
The judge recently ruled “This case will proceed under Ecclesiastical Islamic law,” (sharia law), “pursuant to the Qur’an.”

Yeah, in reading the decision, it looks more like he's saying, "you guys are Muslims, what are you doing in my court? You have Sharia law, and it says you're supposed to work it out." Kinda seems like he's washing his hands to make some point.

Except our court systems are not supposed to operate that way? I know in small claims couts, the judges have a lot of lattitude. maybe this was in a small claims court.

Yeah, I'm not too worked up about it (yet). If it's an internal dispute between Muslims, I don't have a problem with them using sharia law. But it appears that one side didn't want to use it.

Even so, the Muslims appear to have been seeking legal resolution within the US court system. If they are US citizens seeking a legal remedy in the court, unless like radioman says it's in small claims court, then I'm not sure there's a legal justification for a judge to tell either side to seek a different legal system.

Whether he was trying to make a broader point or not, let's all imagine for just a moment a judge telling one party of a suit that they will have to consult the Christian Bible to arrive at a solution.

Probably is small claims ... I wouldn't give you two cents for Muslim property !

Right. No question there. If he told them to work it out in Christian court he would be a Nazi theocrat Bushhitler appointee regardless of the facts. But even so, given what we can tell from the information available here, this judge could either be a Slim-lovin' Sharia-monkey, or a patriot trying to make the point that if 'Slims want their Sharia, they can stay the hell out of his court. Either way, unless his court is at a level where the judge is able to tell people to "go work it out yourselves" like a small claims court, it seems like his suggestion is really out of line.

I did some digging, cannot find out a whole lot, but he appears to be a Jeb Bush appointee. ::)
And I don't really care if this is an all muslim dispute, they come into our courts, they operate under our laws, not the damn sharia or fricken koran!
No toe in the door damnit!

Absolutely. This sets a very bad precedent.
Judge should not have done that and in states where they're attempting to get anti-sharia legislation passed, none will be able to do so.

I guess it's no longer trendy for judges to uphold the laws of America.

Fair is fair, I say it is no longer necessary to tolerate judges who deviate from our laws!
