For the first time in 20 years, New York welcomed a Democrat as mayor in an inauguration that registered a sea change in the city’s politics.
A pastor speaking at the ceremony for New York City Mayor Bill de Blasio on Wednesday called New York a “plantation,” while entertainer Harry Belafonte denounced New York under Michael Bloomberg as “Dickensian,” while the outgoing mayor sat by, BuzzFeed reports.
“Let the plantation called New York City be the city of God, a city set upon the hill, a light shining in darkness,” Brooklyn-based pastor Fred Lucas Jr. said. “Elevate our valleys. Make low our mountains. Make our crooked places straight and our rough places smooth. Oh God, oh God, oh God, break every chain, break every chain, break every chain.”
I read somewhere today that he is planning on outlawing the horse & buggy tours.
Well the bright side to this twit becoming mayor. Is that Toronto no longer has the dumbest mayor in North America.

I don't think they ever did. Detroit, Washington D.C., Chicago, maybe, but the Ford guy was a clown who did a few stupid things while greatly improving his city. The Mayors we have did the same things while DESTROYING their cities. I do not think we have ANY room to give Toronto a hard time.
(January 2, 2014) — Bill de Blasio, the newly inaugurated mayor of New York City, is moving forward with his plan to allocate $1 billion of pension assets to affordable housing—a massive increase to the funds' prior investments to this space.
His plan (http://www.ai-cio.com/channel/ASSET_ALLOCATION/NYC_s_New_Mayor_to_Pursue_Pension_Investments_in_Affordable_Housing.html) calls for creating 11,000 units over eight years with the additional $1 billion input from the city’s $144 billion pension funds. It also includes contraction of 50,000 new units through "inclusionary zoning"—a requirement that developers build affordable homes for low- and middle-income families.
NEW YORK – Mayor Bill de Blasio has been actively touting his plan to expand after-school programs and to provide universal pre-kindergarten to the children living in New York City, as reported this week at Fox News Latino.
To fund the expansion, de Blasio plans on taxing the wealthy.
But what is the plan? Where is the curriculum and who designed it? What is it, exactly, that “the wealthy” are to be funding?
Reverend Al Sharpton is one of the many leaders pushing de Blasio’s plan. In a press release from Citizen’s Committee for Children earlier this month, Sharpton said in part,
“A small tax on the wealthiest New Yorkers is a fair way to pay for such an important investment. New York must pass Mayor de Blasio’s plan to expand universal pre?kindergarten and after-?school programs: it is the best way to reduce inequality in New York City.”

Drats! Foiled again!
More, more,
Rich people in NYC are going to begin to make plans for an exodus. It will happen. They will leave.
Makes me wonder, though, how many of these rich people voted for this idiot? Do you suppose they knew what they would be getting? How much pain does a rich idiot have to suffer before they wise up? I know that some never will but most should be able to figure it out after they have been a punching bag for a while.

As you've no doubt read in other threads Trap, they're leaving in droves now. They run south, bitch about how things are run by the rednecks and work to "civilize" us by voting for the same crap that ran them out of the northeast.
Fools. ::angry::
More than a dozen mayoral staffers have been awaiting job placements for three weeks — and have so little to do that they’re watching Netflix and playing cards while on the government payroll, The Post has learned.
The staffers, ranging from entry-level employees to managers and deputy advisers — and who worked for Mayor de Blasio when he was the city’s public advocate — had been promised better titles and salaries in the new administration, according to a source.
But since de Blasio took office on Jan. 2, they’ve been “twiddling their thumbs” in a third-floor office at 253 Broadway across from City Hall watching movies, playing cards, learning a second language or going on afternoon shopping sprees downtown.
The bored staffers have even been betting on how late the persistently tardy mayor will be at his press conferences.
All are collecting salaries.

Mayor de Blasio finally stopped patting himself on the back for a stellar storm cleanup on Wednesday — and admitted that the city did a lousy job plowing the Upper East Side.
De Blasio first claimed at a morning press briefing that sanitation crews did “a helluva job” removing snow across the city, but he did an about-face in the evening after talking to angry residents, who echoed a Post report about the plower outage.
“While the overall storm response across the city was well-executed, after inspecting the area and listening to concerns from residents earlier today, I determined more could have been done to serve the Upper East Side,” de Blasio said in a statement. “I have instructed the commissioner of the Department of Sanitation to double-down on cleanup efforts on the Upper East Side, and as a result, 30 vehicles and nearly 40 sanitation workers have been deployed to the area to finish the cleanup.”
Sanitation Commissioner John Doherty’s spokesman referred questions to de Blasio’s statement. Doherty said at an earlier press conference, “It is what it is. They can believe what they want. I know what some of our problems were.”
Anyone know which movie this was from?
"The west wasn't won with a registered gun."
Dumb bastard, he forgot the double-tap to the noodle to be sure there is no survivor to be made a progressive hero out of.

He was still in his learning phase. At least he didn't vomit after plugging those two creeps, like he did with his first incident of civic duty.
“I agree with Governor Cuomo’s remarks. I interpret his remarks to say that an extremist attitude that continues the reality of violence in our communities or an extremist attitude that denies the rights of women does not represent the views of New York State,” he added.
No one outside of a room full of Poli Sci retards could have ever anticipated this

As for the Upper East Side having more trash than others, the mayor's office released this statement: "Any allegations that neighborhoods were chosen over others for trash removal are totally absurd."

Make that 1981. I was off a few years. But NYC glory days, to be revisited, no doubt.
Yet another of NYC mayor douchebag moves. Builds tall, ugly, illegal privacy fence (at taxpayer expense) at Gracie Mansion. No building permit, no historic board review etc etc. All stuff that building code enforcers would make you remove if you did it that way you private citizen chump.

They told him in no uncertain terms they dont want him at any cop funerals.
He may feel as if there is something left unsaid!
And Cuomo adds his .02:

Cuomo insists that everyone will kiss and make up "by the next funeral" and suggests that it's all just a misunderstanding - while standing on the side of the cop union boss.
I have no idea who this will unfold but I hope that it includes full-contact politicking. I'd love to see some blue flu.

Their union supported the socialist bastard and now they bitch about the choice?? They would vote for the same party again in a NY minute so I can't say they should be surprised by any of this it's not like he made it a secret.

The Democrats have always been a coalition of interest groups that are frequently at odds with each other. The Republicans are experiencing a small (yet not insignificant) portion of this with the Chamber of Commerce amnesty advocates. The Democrats, though, have always been a step or two away from anarchy. What they are experiencing with the NYPD is really stressing them.
Yes and yes. And I was unreasonably gratified to learn he was NOT of Italian descent.
He eventually adopted his mother's family name of de Blasio because his father was "largely absent," and he wanted to embrace his Italian heritage.[17] In 1983, he changed his legal name to Warren de Blasio-Wilhelm, which he described in April 2012: "I started by putting the name into my diploma, and then I hyphenated it legally when I finished NYU, and then, more and more, I realized that was the right identity." By the time he appeared on the public stage in 1990, he was using the name Bill de Blasio, as he is called "Bill" or "Billy" in his personal life.[15] He petitioned to officially change his name to Bill de Blasio in December 2001, after the discrepancy was noted during an election.[17]

Heard a rumor Hillary could be looking at a NYC mayoral run. Of course she doesn't actually live in the city as far as I know.
