Title: Snow and record lows in North Carolina
Post by: Glock32 on April 23, 2012, 10:22:38 AM
It has been snowing in parts of NC last night and today (which is not that unusual at the higher elevations) but even the lowlands are on target to break their record lows tonight.  Mainly though, just read the comments: http://www.charlotteobserver.com/2012/04/23/3192347/record-cold-possible-tuesday-am.html (http://www.charlotteobserver.com/2012/04/23/3192347/record-cold-possible-tuesday-am.html)

There's all the usual "if you vote Republican you're a climate-murderer" nonsense.  You know, most people stare at you in total disbelief mixed with hilarity when you point out that there has been no statistical warming since 1997. That's a mighty big chink in the AGW armor, because observed empirical data always trump models, predictions, and theories, yet hardly anyone knows it.

This demonstrates how effective a propaganda campaign can be. Like Twain said, “A lie can travel halfway around the world while the truth is still putting on its shoes.”

This year, the USDA updated its zones "plant hardiness map" for the whole country, with Zone 1 being the coldest and Zones 12-13 the warmest.

North Carolina used to be Zone 7.  Now, we're Zone 8.

They're misleading people into thinking incorrectly about planting conditions.

I checked the garden and the plants look okay.  I'd have been pissed had we done all that work for naught.

We never plant anything before April 1st because there's ALWAYS a cold snap during March before it starts warming up for good.  This year, it's almost a month later.

I'm thankful for y'all out east, storm is plugging up the drain and allowing warm air to bubble up here.  I guess once that plug is pulled it'll suck all this good weather right on out of here...

Oh well, whattayagonnado?

Bummer.  My SIL seems to be experiencing this too.
